So far, I have installed a theme for my store.
I have noticed that add to cart and add to compare are not working for me.
The only thing that is working is add to cart.
is there a way to fix this problem?

Post a link to your website. What about in the default theme? If there works well, it might be because of the custom theme.
The perhaps it gets removed by some vqmod you installed, which fails to completly remove it in the custom theme, thus resulting in unfunctional button.
