How do I got about writing a URL rewrite

Also please give me some explanation for rewrite mapping

I have tried few examples on the net, but my site keeps throwing 500 error

Looks like we are both trying to keep the urls working from our previous cart.

I just started a similar thread here:

You can manually add to the url_alias database if you seo turned on.

I am waiting to see if there are any other solutions.

Do you have the ability to directly work with the Mysql data via phpMyAdmin or some other tool?

Take a look at the url_alias table data and structure. Use SQL to find the your seo keyword, scene-setters, (fieldname keyword) for the new page your are using, and see what internal page (fieldname query) it is pointing to.

Copy this record (make a duplicate) , and change the keyword field to, newCategories.asp?CatID=240
The query field should contain the same data as the original scene-setters seo query field.

Opencart `should` treat this as a new seo keyword for your new page, keeping any references in the search engines coming into your new cart at the correct page. I haven't tried a seo keyword with the ? mark yet, so unsure.

Just make sure you do not over-write any existing data.

There might be some SEO extensions that would allow you to do this in a more structured manner, but I am not sure.

*** Warning ***

If you are not familiar, and comfortable with using SQL and myphpadmin, then I wouldn't try this on a live shopping cart, as it is completely outside the normal structured data entry for OpenCart.

Always do testing on a test machine, and have a backup before proceeding - You Have Been Warned!

-good luck
