Short URL - internal OpenCart version

a short url service is intriguing but i'd rather not be dependent on an external service

what about an internal opencart-version of a short url system?

in other words, the cart could generate its own short-url for any product or category from this:

"Check out our heavy duty boots"
http://www.mysite.com/boots/work/leather/heavy-duty/

to this:

"Check out our heavy duty boots"
http://www.mysite.com/Lkajsd

could be a pretty cool feature

For use in what?

One of the reasons you want to use
http://www.mysite.com/boots/work/leather/heavy-duty/ is for keywords for seo. Using a short url does not give you any link juice. (using your example, btw, I would do it as
http://www.mysite.com/boots/work-boots/ ... ork-boots/ for better seo)

If you want to use it for tweeting, etc, many tweet clients (like tweetdeck that I use) can auto shorten links.
