seo urls stopped working

Luckily this is a dev site right now, but for some reason my seo urls quit working.
Everything works fine without them, but as soon as I re enable the SEO tab, all products quit.
Categories work fine, and I notice the that category name is added to the front of the product, that doesn't sound right.
for example: mysite.com/category/product it should be mysite.com/product I would think.

Anyways, I am stuck and without seo friendly urls, I can't go live. I am migrating an existing site so I need the URL's to stay the same.

OK, I figured that out.
A caveat for anyone that is moving from another site and has product in the URL.

My old url was: mysite.com/product/productname so I put product/productname in for seo. That was the problem.

Probably an edge case, but a caveat nonetheless.
