SebastianJu wrote:Hello,

i want to follow the upgradescript but im hanging at step 4a. It says i should upload all new opencart files. But in 4b it tells me i should upload the install folder of the upgrade script. Thats something i should have done in the first lines of the readme already.

So now im not sure what to do. Does this mean that i only need the upgrade script, upload the installfolder and use the php-script inside like in the readme or does it mean that i need the upgradescript + opencart version 1.5.1.2? Do i first upload the files for 1.5.1.2 that arent included in the upgrade script and then upload the install folder and run the upgrade? Im not sure what step 4a refers to.

I know that i first have to use the upgradescript to get to 1.5.1.2 and later update to later versions but the first post in this thread nor the readme push away my doubts what step 4a means. If it means the original opencart version 1.5.1.2 then it would have been mentioned probably somewhere but it isnt. So it seems to state that only the upgradescript is needed. Whats correct?

Thanks!
Sebastian
Upload the new version of opencart (4a)
Now "if you haven't already", upload these beta upgrade script files to the install folder. (4b)

Thanks! So

Code: Select all

STEP 4a. UNZIP AND UPLOAD ALL THE NEW OPENCART FILES OVER YOUR EXISTING FILES
refers to opencart version 1.5.1.2 files that one has to upload. And later run the upgrade-script. It looks normal that this version is needed but that its not mentioned in readme nor in first post of this thread let me stop at that point.

No. It says "NEW"... which means the current version. You don't need to install 1.5.1.2 first. Install 1.5.4.1
Then run the script
Then run the other install script that comes with 1.5.4.1

Oh... much place for misunderstandings. I before read it so that the upgradescript only works upgrading up to 1.5.1.2 and if you want to upgrade higher you have to do this later with the upgrading information given in the newer files.

So 4a means: Upload the opencart files version 1.5.1.2 OR the files of a newer/newest version of opencart you want to upgrade to.
4b. Upload install folder of this script
Then run the upgradescript.
If you uploaded a version higher than 1.5.1.2 then now use the upgrade file from that version.

Thanks for clarification!

Yes. I worded it very carefully to be clear. But it is often skimmed.

The script updates the "database" to version 1.5.1.2. Nevermind that the files you uploaded are from 1.5.4.1.
So if you install a version of OpenCart that is newer than 1.5.1.2, this "beta" upgrade script will handle the upgrade from 1.4.x to 1.5.1.2
After running this install script, opencart has its own install script that handles upgrading from 1.5.1.2 to the latest version you have installed. During this upgrade process, it doesn't matter what version of the files you installed. So always upload the latest version and just be sure to first run this upgrade script (if coming from 1.4.x) and then run the install script that comes with the version of opencart you installed.

In later versions, after you've done this 1.4.x to 1.5.x upgrade, you no longer need to run the "beta" upgrade script.... just the upgrade script that comes with the version of OpenCart you installed

STEP 12. RUN THE BUILT-IN OPENCART UPGRADE FOR v1.5.1.3 or LATER by visiting:
When i go to the coresponfing link i am asked "Please enter your database connection details."
The question i have for you is the following: I must enter the old data from the previos install or i should enter new data from a new database ?
I must mention that I want to keep my old database with customers and products!

Thanks for you time and help!

I am trying to upgrade the store from 1.4.x but the instruction at 4a and 4b is very confusing.
STEP 4a. UNZIP AND UPLOAD ALL THE NEW OPENCART FILES OVER YOUR EXISTING FILES
STEP 4b. If you haven't already, Upload the install folder from the beta2 upgrade zip file
on 4a: If upload 1.5.4.1, say the latest version, to my existing opencart files (1.4.x), will it not be overwriting everything in 1.4.x? Is that all the store files or only the files under 'Install' files of the NEW version (in this case 1.5.4.1)?

on 4b: The beta-2 script zip file contains ONLY 2 files: upgrade-14x-to-15x.php and upgrade-14x-to-15x.sql . There are no any other files.

Can anyone who successfully made the upgrade clarify this vague (to me of course) transition of the instruction?

Yes, it overwrites the old files and thats ok. Then run the upgradescript and then run the upgrade of 1.5.4.1.

SebastianJu,
Thanks a lot. Here is thus what I have to follow:
1) overwrite the old with 1.5.4.1(Latest Version)
2) upload the beta3 script to the 'Install' folder of 1.5.4.1(Latest Version)
3) run the beta3 upgrade script from there (step 2) to move the store from 1.4.x to 1.5.1.2
4) run the upgrade script that comes with 1.5.4.1(Latest Version) to move the store from 1.5.1.2 to 1.5.4.1(Latest Version)

Am I right?

I am unable to see the store body section. Down on Step 18, it says
The next step is to begin adding the modules to the layouts...
Goto the Admin->Extensions->Modules section and edit the modules.
For example, Add a new instance of Latest Module to the "Content Top" position and choose the "home" layout.
Now refresh the front end, you should see the latest module
Continue on for each module for each page.
I installed "Account" module and gave it column left position, which appears
I installed "Affiliate" module but couldn't see any on the store front
I do not see menu at all
I had made "Maintenance" mode On during upgrade but now, am unable to make it Off
Every time I try to change server settings, I get this warning "Warning: Please check the form carefully for errors!"

Is there something wrong in the process?

Im not further than that point but i do the upgrading offline so i can take time and remember the steps to do before i make it at the livesystem. So i cant say much about it because i have to find this out all by myself too before.

If you dont make it in time its probably better to restore the backup and try to upgrade everything offline first too.

Thanks SebastianJu. I restored the previous store back on the server, which is a good thing. As you said, I started working on localhost. I had to get the store on localhost. I see product categories and customer information BUT 'Products' list and information is empty. As a result, the store front doesn't show product listing and pricing. I do not know why the database restore on the localhost doesn't restore products information. Based on your suggestion, my idea was then to setup well the existing store on the localhost and then work on the upgrade process from there. If I can't find out the reason, I had to yet to decide whether I have to manually reenter all products information, which would take a good piece of time.
I appreciated your presence and comments.

This is because you skipped either Step 3 or Step 5 and Step 6

Get an error :(

Code: Select all

The following errors occured:

Could not execute this query: INSERT INTO `oc_option_value` (`option_value_id`, `option_id`, `sort_order`)SELECT `product_option_value_id`, `product_option_id`, `sort_order` FROM `oc_product_option_value`; Duplicate entry '699' for key 1

The above errors occurred because the script could not properly determine the existing state of those db elements. Your store may not need those changes. Please post any errors on the forums to ensure that they can be addressed in future versions!

I was able to upgrade (almost) my old version to 1.5.4.1 but I am still unable to see top menus that comes with 1.5.4.1, I couldn't see catalog list, slideshow at welcome, etc. I upgraded the store from a clean 1.4.9, i.e I made a clean install of this old version, imported database from there. Then, I used the script upgrade instructions up the way to 1.5.4.1.

I haven't encountered any error in the process, except that when I tried to open a product through several links (as the 'Home' link couldn't pull down products by default), I see a sort of error (warning?) that banner ID is missing or so. The drop-down of banner, or anything that requires to set banner information, doesn't show IDs or a list.

How can I resolve the banner ID issue?
How can I show top menu, products list, sliddeshow, etc the same way as the demo of Opencart?

I would highly appreciate if anyone can help
