Hey Guys,
Is there an IRC server for OpenCart? If not, have you thought about starting one?
Cheers

Haha oh really, I only just learnt about it and it seems an awesome way to be in heaps of chat rooms chatting about things and also PM when needed. Way better then Skype and MSN etc in my opinion.!!

IRC is still really popular in corners of the internet. If enough people are interested I could set up a non-official chan

Really? I'm always in #mysql, #jquery, #unix, #opencart and #cakephp... I still find it extremely useful for getting answers immediately... what have you replaced IRC with?Qphoria wrote:lol have fun. IRC has gone the way of the dodo

Lots of people still use IRC. The WordPress channel has a couple hundred in it all the time. It's also used by many small workgroups.
Hi
I agree, IRC is cool and a great tool for getting quick answers, advices, and just for chatting and getting to know other developers in a way that the delay forum communication just doesn't allow.
please join the conversation by grabbing the popular irc client, mIRC (.com), or the firefox plugin chatzilla
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... chatzilla/
or any irc chat client, connect to freenode (in mirc, /server irc.freenode.net in the main window) and join #opencart
A dedicated crew of opencart users and developers awaits you there, so join and idle with us!

Come join us in IRC! We have a little community of around 4 people at the moment, but its growing. Set your client to auto join #opencart and lets get an IRC channel that we can all use for support!

When it comes to open source, IRC is still alive and kicking. That's especially true for Linux distros, the biggest ones have over 1000 users on their channels. No matter what others think, it's still the best way to help and get helped right away, imho.
I never used OC before, but I heard good things about it so I'll give it a try and stay on the channel too

IRC is and always has been a joke. Yes it is hugely popular among non-US countries because that is all there was for a while.. but it has never been as useful as it was planned to be.
In my experience it is always empty rooms where people leave their IRC clients up endlessly and just sit in rooms as ops
nobody is ever actively there to help
It is simply a place to make bots for games like 20 questions, share porn passwords, and warez.
Forums, IM clients, shoutboxes, facebook, twitter, blogs, bittorrent, p2p sharing ... all have replaced IRC for their respective pieces.
It's like mailing lists.. up until recently jQuery used mailing lists as support... what a joke.
Luckily other sites had jQuery support forums and now jQuery finally has one.
