Is there a mod or something that will allow me to let users upload files with their orders so they can sent in their custom designs etc?

This feature will probably be available soon. I'm going to look into it soon if Daniel hasn't already started a better solution. My production time is so sporatic, that I have to sometimes put together crude hacks.
If you want to jump the gun, and you are a coder yourself, please look at the text options for products add-on to see if you can't hack it to use a file field on top of what's already there. I'm sure you guys can work it out if you are a decent coder.
If someone could let me know... which other carts have a file upload function? I'm not sure I've seen this before - that's why Opencart is the best (has been, can be, will be).

I have just contracted a guy to work on this yesterday based on looking at your text options item.

Will let you know if there are any questions :)

I set up a printing website a while back using ZenCart and used the file upload module - it's not the best thing. It does not include the upload as an email attachment to the shop owner, it renames the file to a simple sequential numerical digit, and the uploads folder is hard to find. So if anyone is working on a module for this, I'd like to see it, at the very least, include a link to the file in the email to the shop owner.

95% there today, however it is 'customised' to my needs as it runs a watermark over the top of the uploaded image and 'replaces' the product image on the page (like a sort of preview).

It could be changed to not do that element, however I am not writing out the file name on the customer side as they get to see the picture. The filename is written out on the order page in the admin though so that you can easily locate the image that a user uploaded with the product.

The upload can be applied to any product in the store via the "options" tab.

I would link to an example but the store is still in development so I wont just yet. Soon though soon.

I have not yet decided if it will be a small fee, donation-ware or free, it depends how much I get charged by the developer that I have working on it... would people pitch in / be prepared to help me cover the costs if I released it as a modification?

You can now download a template and then have a sneak peak at the functionality. ;)

Thanks. Its getting there. Currently working on the admin side so that a new button shows that will load up all the designs ready to print in 300DPI :)

Also working on the site as a whole, starting to customise the theme, new header images, etc.

Looks excellent itrends. I would pay, depending on how much you're asking ;)

I am in the process of moving to OpenCart from EKMPowershop.

A good file upload system is hard to find in any shop solution, but I think opencart with its clean code should be customisable to do it.

I had cobbled together a file upload (using filechucker) with EKM where the file upload generates a long hash serial number and that is used as a text field option when the item is added to the cart. I am currently looking at how to move this into Opencart, although I can only find drop-down options not text options in the admin at the moment... now frantically trying to learn PHP so I can customise things a bit!

To see my existing upload at EKM:

(the morph book upload generates a preview on the fly, I want to try and use this preview in the basket on Opencart).

I would be interested in contributing (probably financially rather than technically, until I learn PHP!) to any development work that I benefit from and will chip in with a donation to opencart also when my site goes live.

That link seems to just go to your site - How do I access the template you mentioned? Or is it a case of looking at the page source?

I'm keen to progress this upload facility as it's critical to relaunching my flickerbook site on Opencart. I will share any enhancements I make to the uploader in this forum.

Want want want!! I'm building a site for a client that needs photo upload capability for doing custom orders and I'd be more than happy to chip in! I don't need watermarking or template shaping, just simple file upload.
