I have search everywhere for a solution to this but to no avail.
I would think this is a very common task so maybe I am missing something.
Some of the products that I sell have State and Local government restrictions as well as shipping restrictions. As the seller, I am obligated to ensure that my customers are aware of these restrictions prior to attempting to purchase them.
As I see it, there are three ways to distribute this information to the customers.
1) provide a menu with links to the documents that displays the document when the user clicks on it (having a print option would be ideal). This menu can be in a side bar, main menu, top bar...I don't care as long as it has good visibility. I have added these documents to the information menu but there are a lot of them and the menu just gets to long. Is it possible to create a new information menu? and if so, rename it to what I need and place it in a sidebar?
2) providing a link to the document from the product description
3) preferred - having both option 1 and 2. From a liability standpoint, it would be best to have several methods of making sure that these documents are readily available to customers.
There are several document that I have created to cover all of the laws and restrictions and some of them are very lengthy so adding them to the product description IS NOT an option.
Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.
I am using Opencart 1.5.1.3
I read this topic a couple of times and, while I do entirely agree on the concept and idea above, I wonder if simply adding your document text amongst the already used terms and agreement policy would have its advantage as the ones you describe above since the customer won't obviously miss the agreement window once the order is about to get completed since checking a box is mandatory. Besides, customers has no true obligation of reading anything when they wish to checkout an order even though an eCommerce software would require it. :/
Dedication and passion goes to those who are able to push and merge a project.

Straightlight,
I agree with what you are saying except for one thing. One of my products, which is very expensive, requires the buyer to contact the manufacturer to have a background check ran. The product that they are purchasing cannot be activated without it. It is imperative that they read this information BEFORE purchasing this product...I cannot give a refund becasue they choose to ignore the legal requirements. Plus, many of my products are classified as weapons so I have to make sure that all of my bases are covered from a liability standpoint.
I would normally agree with the statement that you made:
Thanks,

However, from a legal standpoint, the customer is obligated to read the TOS and any other legal guidance. As such, I have an obligation to ensure that it is easily accessible to him from a liability standpoint. A kinda "you can't say I didn't warn you...repeatedly" type of thing.straightlight wrote:customers has no true obligation of reading anything when they wish to checkout
