I am using OpenCart 1.5.1.3 and when I edit the header.tpl and add the code to change my home page link, my page content below the header jumps from being 1000 px wide to a full width edge-to-edge content page. This would be workable, but there is no padding at all and I would prefer to keep the formatting that makes the site content centered between background edge padding.
I further explored the problem by taking the original header.tpl and changing nothing. Just saving it in Dreamweaver and posting it back to my store. This also changes the page width. I want to make both the header image and the Home link to go back to our main page. But I don't want the page width to be affected. It's not changing the code that creates this problem. Perhaps there's a unclosed div tag or something????

Have you tried editing the file thru a text editor like notepad++? Dreamweaver might be trying to "fix" the code when you run it thru it. I never used it, but I know NetObjects Fusion used to do that too when I used it a lot.
Running Opencart v3.0.3.9 with multi-stores and the default template from https://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.
I used notepad. Made the changes. Uploaded them via Dreamweaver, and voila! no problem. Now I can control the header without destroying my page.Thank you for helping me! It didn't occur to me that the problem was DW itself.

Glad it worked. That's the problem with editors like dreamweaver - they get too diligent in trying to make sure your code is correct. It probably added a closed division or other thing that it didn't need as it thinks each file is supposed to be a complete one. Since header.tpl is only part of the code that completes with footer.tpl, it probably closed what it wasn't supposed to.
