2 - Is amazing that there is no option at admin panel that allow us fix the price "on request". That makes a big failure, because sometimes we want to promote some products, but we do not have prices set for them.
this doesn't make any sense. Who is going to buy something when they don't know what the price is.

I'll try to be clearer ... This product is not for sale but would be subject to disclosure. Example: You sell the product code 001 for $ 200.00, the code 002 for $ 300.00, but you can also provide on request the same product, the way the customer wants, but for this there is a price defined as will vary according to his needs. However, you want to advertise it in the store. There is a module for this, "CALL FOR PRICE" but it was for version 1.4.8 and presented several problems.
Got it now?

not really. Call for price I understand, but whatever it is that you are attempting to explain is obviously much to complicated to expect in the core since it cannot even be explained easily.

Hi Chaps

Some really great suggestions here so far.

I'm not 100% clear on what the product options images functionality that Daniel mentioned in his first post is - so I thought I'd post what I would like. If it's already covered then apologies - I'm not a techie

I sell many products that are available in many colours for example, I used to list each colour as an individual product which helped to track which colour was popular as well as the product.

I am now (v1.5.1) using product options to offer colours but:

a) I would like to show different images when an option is selected. Each colour could have 10 or 12 images available so I don't want to put all images under the single product as it's too many images - if this could change as options are selected it would be great.

b) I would like to track products viewed by option also. I used to have each option as a seperate product which gave me these metrics but under options I don't - could this be done?

Ability to display product options with ADD TO BASKET button next to them would be nice. Many stores offer products with only 2-3 options available (if any) and it would make selection a bit easier, if instead of radio buttons or dropboxes, we'd have:

Star Wars t-shirt

S [add to basket]
M [add to basket]
L [add to basket]

Also, instead of price difference (+x/-x) for the Options, I'd prefer having a set price for each of them, so customer can see final price without having to calculate it in their head. Selling loose tea for example (which I do), I'd like to have:

Green Tea

50g - $2 [add to basket]
100g - $3 [add to basket]
150g - $4 [add to basket]

Rather than adding +$1 for each option.

Hope this makes sense, any chance of implementing these options in the future?

Please note that on system installed modules forum SMF.
There is an XML file which is prescribed then it automatically will be changed in the kernel code and a list of files to copy.
It would be great to have been a standard OpenCart additional extensions.
This greatly reduced the time to update, and routine operations for editing code.
Copy files to FTP module is not difficult, very long to install it to find the right lines and make changes.
Of course there are many extensions, some may be a mistake, but that is another issue that should not be a non-standard system of automatic installer modules.

Fraud prevention features

I don't know the best way to handle fraudsters, but some of them who use stolen credit cards on our sites, are using the same computer, the same address, the same email which they have myspace accounts with so we can even see our scammers faces!

Anyway, since they don't seem too sophisticated, these features could reduce the use of stolen cards and prevent lost revenue.

I'm not sure whether 3d secure needs to be dine by the card or merchant but this would certainly help. It would be good to have a feature in the admin/users section to flag user as a fraudsters which would then track his ip/cookie/address/email for repeated use and then either block future transactions that match those details or flag future orders with these details as potential fraud so that we can call and verify or delay the order until we can be sure it's legitimate.

Just a thought but I'm sure this can be improved and maybe also add flash cookies as a tracking method.

Switch on or off of features - or invisible/visible property change.

For less technically able users like myself and others and also for shop owners not designers, the ability to hide or show certain features would be invaluable at store level or globally.

For example the ability hide or show the following:

Search box
Currency changer
Top right links
Welcome user/login links
Logo

Etc etc etc

This would give those that don't know CSS/HTML to be able to make minor changes to make it look or work slightly differently.

Feature: More layout options

For example:

Header Top
Header Bottom
Footer Top
Footer Bottom

So that you have greater control over where the slideshow/banner/other modules appear.

I only came across this because I wanted to have a banner that appeared at the bottom of the page above the footer on all the pages and it wasnt possible from the admin cp :( im sure it would be really useful for everyone :) of course it can be done through editing the template but having it in the admin would be perfect! :D

Customer export/import would be really useful when migrating from another cart and for generally backing up customer details or exporting to another system like mailchimp etc.

Also ability mass emailing those customers with their new randomly generated password after import

A navigation creation tool

So that you can create a navigation where you can have a mixture of links like directly to products, categories and information pages.

This could maybe be implemented sitewide so you can choose which links/products/categories/information pages you want to appear in which nagivation section.

Contact Page Improvements

Adding a google mashup map which pulls a map from google based on the post code
Add telephone line or physical store opening times
Add image to show whether the phone lines or the physical shop is open at this time
Add a current time where the store is physically based

We have found by adding what time it is in our part of the world our international customers dont get frustrated when we dont pick up the phone because they know when we are open/closed to take calls before they call.

Also removing the T/A part on the sub stores contact page (eg Store Owner t/a Store Name) would be useful as you might want to trade as a seperate legal entity.

- Add to Geographic Regions of cities the option to make it possible to use shipping modules to set some specific values for some cities.
You have several people who would like to use this option in Brazil

- Option friendly URL for all pages

I am not sure if this has been added, but:-
Mobile Browser Extension (There is a Mod http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... order=DESC, but it is still only 1.4.x.
Ability to add shipping method (ie Courier/post), on Customers Orders -as well as reference number if applicable.
Template for Order Comments when notifying customers - This would be handy, to have an Insert button to add certain text, that is commonly repeated. eg: Your parcel has shipped. This also could be combined with the above fields for Courier/reference details

Few things would be nice in 1.6 (or even 1.5.2)

1) Ability to send mail to people who have not only ordered a specific item, but the status too. For example, you can have 5 people order an item that's backordered. It would be nice to send an email to all people who ordered that product that was backordered at the time, to let them know it's back in stock. Right now, it just emails everyone who ordered that item.

2) Be able to remove an order that was declined from sales totals.

3) Ability to track how many refunds you had

4) Ability to change shipping price per item.

5) Ability to remove an item from an order, and re-adjust the shipping charge.

6) Ability to show all categories a product is in on the product page.

7) SEO friendly tag urls

8) Ability to add content to a tag page

9) Ability to have a filter for search. to find all sony tv's, first select the brand, then select the TV size, then select the tv type, and then we'll show you what we have.

10) Ability to be able to create a new page, and add PHP code to it.

Amazon just had a major 48 hour outage a few months ago. And as someone who worked for a company that was really pushing cloud computing I'd advise a little bit of skepticism; you would not believe how cobbled together some cloud services are.
I am sorry for the following, but for me as an European using an external storage (either for images or other data) is definitely no option.

Why?

2 major stopper:
1. every data which can be stored on a server owned / operated by an american company has to handle out their data if government is asking for (see partiot act)
2. outage can happen on every server (even it is a cloud based environement). But while this provider does NOT guarentee an uptime of a minimum of 99,996 % per year (!) per SLA it is not a good provider (for a shop, for a CMS maybe)

Better to have all my data on my own server with a serious provider in the background.
Better to develop an easy to handle solution for splitting data/images to several locations (on this server) as a 'balanced' solution.
With regard to (1) above - that actually applies to most European countries and certainly those that I have lived in myself (UK, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic). If you are that concerned about data privacy then you should stop using the internet and destroy your PC.

With regard to (2) above - Of course, even CDN's have outages. To suggest otherwise is pretty lame especially since the majority use the *nix operating system and have to be rebooted during kernal updates. However, it has to be pretty serious to take out an entire CDN.

As you suggested, you could store all your own data on your own server (you'll still be subject to information disclosure laws) but I think you might be a little misguide in your statement
develop an easy to handle solution for splitting data/images to several locations (on this server) as a 'balanced' solution
Sorry but that isn't going to work. You imply it can be done "on this server"; the implication being you want to use a single server, you need multiple servers to 'load balance' just as you do to store dduplicates of your data and images.
What you just described (in very simplsitic terms) is a CDN. If you can do it better than the big boys, you should send them your CV :)

The product tabs "description, reviews, related products, etc" should not take you back to the top of the page when you click on them.
