Hi guys,

have someone among you tried to view the OpenCart Shop with the Internet Explorer 8 browser? I have upgraded my Internet Explorer 7. Now I am using IE8 for browsing. When I view the OpenCart Shop demo, some template objects are not shown correctly on the product pages that differ even from product to product. Let me explain what I mean:

The first problem:
1. Visit the demo store at http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... onstration and choose the Store Front

2. Click the item HP LP3065 in the LATEST PRODUCTS category

3. Click Additional Images tab - the whole page moves some pixels to the left

4. Click Reviews - no page movement

5. Click Related Products - tha page moves back to the right

Another problem:
1. Go to demo store at http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... onstration

2. Click the category 'Laptops & Notebooks' and choose the item McBook

4. Repeat the steps 3 through 4 as shown above - the page seems to be correct

5. Click Related Products - the page moves to the right some pixels.

The last example of different page display:
1. Go to demo store at http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... onstration

2. Click the category 'Components' and the sub-category 'Monitors'

3. Choos the item APPLE CINEMA 30"

4. Repeat the steps 3 through 5 as shown in the 'The first problem' exmaple

5. All seems to be all right.

Why this behavior occurrs when Internet Explorer 8 is used? The previous version of the browser (IE 7) was OK and no page disarrangements like above was seen at all. It would be great if anybody among you can detect the same behavior and post the solution how to avoid it? Is it the matter of the code, or the new product of Microsoft lies behind?

Thanks for your attention and help in advance!

because thats the way its sopposed to!

because the page is bigger than the screen so the scroll bar appears.

this is the same for any web site and any browser.

Daniel and ALL devs around the globe-stop supporting IE6 and IE8 -they SUCK!! MS ie must die. It's not CSS 2 ccs3 compatible. I'm tired to make designs and then REMAKE it to work on IE.

so the less support to IE-the less users use it :)

Well, we got the IE6-Browser Warning module for Opencart 1.2.x. ;)

I am surprised IE8 doesn't render some templates correctly, haven't tested it IE8 though.

Daniel,

I am sorry I was not able to describe the problem better in English that is not my native language. I do not mean the scroll bar on the right side of the whole browser window - that would be OK. But it moves as a whole page to the left and back within the browser window. If I make the browser windows smaller enough in a horizontal direction (and the bootom scroll bar appears), then the product page content jumping dissappears suddenly. I always adjusted the browser window to fit the horizontal size of the page in order to see the problem described. Have you tried it as I did? Have a looked at it, and you will understand what I mean.

If I use the Internet Explorer 7 browser, that problem I was trying to point to, will not be observed at all. I am not sure how the site will behave when a visitor uses Internet Explorer 6 (I do not have it installed on my box). I was testing it with Mozilla 3.0.8 - everything is OK. Upgraded version 3.0.10 of Mozilla is OK, either. The Google Chrome - perfect. However, the Opera browser v9.64 shows the same results as it is with the IE 8 borwser. I am not a skilled web site programmer, but it seems the post of tommix indicates probably that problem I am trying to describe. It is strange that IE 7 displays the page other way then IE 8 ( & Opera). Moreover, why the particular product page of the HP LP3065 differs from that of the McBook and that of the APPLE CINEMA 30" when using IE 8 (& Opera). I think all product pages are supposed to be desplayed the same way when clicking on the 'Description', 'Additional Images', 'Reviews' and 'Related Products' tabs, aren't they? I do hope all of you will now understand what I am talking about.

Joe, I just tested the demo site as per you previous post with Opera 9.64 on a Fedora 10 box, and I am unable to reproduce any of your problems. I also tested it with IE6 (running under Wine on Fedora 10), again no problems. The only issue with IE6 is the 'Your Store' logo at the top, probably due to some problems with the iepngfix.htc which is not 100% reliable in rendering the PNG images.

Have you tried to use those browsers under MS Windows XP/Vista? I tested it both under WinXP and Vista. I am surprised why there is a diffrence between the various Internet browsers. What you report is another additional strange behavior. Why beside the browser difference running under the Microsoft Windows OS (WinXP or Vista) there is also a difference between operating systems, as well?

By the way, that problem I am describing is not crucial for running the store at all. I just want to draw the attention of the programmers and ask for a solution, if any. It would be great if all pages are displayed the same way independently on the browser and/or operating system, wouldn't be?

Hi guys,

I have prepared video presentations to demonstrate what is discussed in this topic. For those keen enough to see them, here are the download links (please click the link 'Download for free with FileFactory Basic ' after the respective page is open and enter the captcha code to proceed with the download):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag0c767 ... _vista_avi
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag0c83h/n/IE7_vista_avi
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag0c913/n/IE8_WinXP_avi

http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag0dcgd ... _WinXP_avi
http://www.filefactory.com/file/ag0db4g ... _vista_avi

NOTE: I was wrong about the Google Chrome browser. Sorry for that. The only browsers that display all the product pages correctly are IE7 and Mozilla.

Daniel,

please accept my apology. You were right with the vertical scroller that forces some product pages to jerk left and back as soon as the vertical size of the page is larger, and it cannot fit into the browser window size. However, as I described, that behavior is not seen in all browsers. Now I completely understand why different product pages are displayed in a different way after clicking the very same tag in the same
browser. The content of the tags differs from product to product, hence the scroll bar will sometimes appear, but on a page with the different tag content it won't. That is why the page jerks and does not jerk in all browsers but the IE7 and Mozilla.

What a pitty, only the IE7 and Mozilla are surprisingly OK even if the vertical scroll bar appears (see my previous post reply with download links of screen capture presentations with various browsers). It would be great if the store behaves the same way in all available and mostly used Internet browsers, wouldn't be?

Thank you for your nice support and keep on improving your great product I love!

Hi guys,

What about this solution?

http://www.trap17.com/forums/Css-Trick- ... 20688.html

Daniel, will you try to use that knowledge in your effort to a perfect-looking online shop? Could it be applied in your CSS file and will that eliminate the ennoying change of the location of page content?

no because this is the expected behaviour of the browser.

you should know this if you are a web developer.

it does it on IE7, Firefox and many more browsers.

theres nothing dissaranged,

you have to have the scroll bars appear to fit the content on. if you are using javascript to for a tab system you expect the content size to change depending on the size of the content in the choosen tab. If the size is to large for the page the scrollbars appear.

I already know of a way to make the scoll bars appear all the time, but the behauor is expected!

maybe you should contact microsoft or Al Gore (inverntor of the internet) instead of bugging me about how the web behaves.

OK Daniel,

Thanks for your reply. You are right, there is nothing disarranged. I have appologized for my English, already. Anyhow, I cannot agree with you that IE7 shows your pages the same way like IE8 does. The page jerks to the left as soon as the side vertical scroll bar appears in IE8. You consider it OK. It has, however, been percieved as annoying by some users, and reported by some of them in other discussions on the web see the links in my previous posts and my screen capture presentations, as well). That was all I wanted to explain. I am just pointing to a problem that might arrise after more and more users start using Microsoft Internet Explorer 8. I know you have done a great job and had a plenty of work. Many thanks for beeing patient with me. Once again, good luck with your excellent project.

Daniel,

In spite of your views on this topic have you tried to implement a fix? The default template stylesheet contains "overflow: -moz-scrollbars-vertical" which consistently displays a scrollbar in FF. Is this required for any other reason?

I wouldn't personally be bothered either way only this prevents FF from displaying a horizontal scrollbar when required. Try viewing a shop in 800x600 (or just a non-maximised narrowed window) to see what I mean!

BTW hi all! Been browsing for a few days - wouldv'e signed up sooner if it weren't for that meddling captcha ;)
