Here are steps I used to upgrade from 1.5.0.5 to 1.5.1.1 (and of course it will work from 1.5.0 up)
1) rename config.php and admin/config.php to something else (config.xxx)
2) upload all 1.5.1.1 files except install directory
3) rename config.xxx files to config.php
4) run the attached script from the install directory
upgrade-1505-to-1511.php
This runs the v151 alter commands that is part of Qphoria's original upgrade beta.
Once this runs, you have to re-save the Category and Information module to get rid of the code dumps at the top of the home page. Plus you have to update the user groups/top administrator, select all for permissions. This gives you access to the new reports.
This preserves all products AND options created in 150x

I'm using v.1.5.0.5 and I've done several customizations in different files, admin and catalog, and I'm even using a self made template.
Do I lose all customization if I upgrade OC?
Thanks.

You may lose some stuff depending on how you've made your changes.Eugene wrote:I'm using v.1.5.0.5 and I've done several customizations in different files, admin and catalog, and I'm even using a self made template.

Some tips.
1. When making a custom template, only include tpl files in your template that you've changed. Usually a theme can be comprised of only changing the header.tpl and css files without any changes to the rest. So only add files to your theme from the default theme as you change them. This allows the template fallback system to work and any changes to less commonly themed files will be passed through to your theme. Then if they are updated, you won't have to make any changes to your theme as the new version will just be there.
2. Always use vQmod for making customizations to code or individual tpl files. This way, upgrades to the core code won't overwrite your changes and unless the code has changed dramatically, the vQmod script should still match with the search pattern.
I got no idea what vQmod is, but is seems to be very useful.
I'm going to get it for my next e-commerce(s).
Thanks a lot.
