[1.5.0.] fetch method from controller missing?

The protected function fetch from system/engine/controller got removed from 1.4 to 1.5?
Does anybody knows why ?

Templates are loaded differently now
Looks like it was merged with render() and the new getChild function was pulled out of render()

Thanks for the reply. I was already able to do what i intended with getChild, but needed to create a controller for that.
So lousy scripts can't get loaded like before without a controller, was this by design forcing that every View be attached to a controller?
