Hi all,

so our shop is quite basic and we don't use most the features. We're currently on 1.4.7 and i tend not to upgrade because i live in fear of cocking it up and having to everything again from scratch (though i downloaded 1.4.9 and the upgrade.txt file looked relatively pain free).

At the moment the one issue we have is that we give mp3 downloads when a product is bought, and for the customer to get them immediately we have to set it to give them at 'pending' and if i then change it to Complete it removes the downloads from the customers downloads section of the account.

Q said upgrading will resolve this, which is why i finally came here today to look into it. Then I saw 1.5.0.

It does, obviously, look exciting, but a lot of the changes Q mentioned in the preview meant nothing to me as we don't really use them. The above issue is the only one i'm really concerned about, and the fact that at the moment i can't have a coupon to make something free because the coupon is entered after the payment type is chosen and so the free checkout isn't activated.

If all i want is those two things would i be better off doing the upgrade now and not worrying about (or waiting for) 1.5.0?

Also, we have a script which we bought that helps with uploading the downloadable files, (can't remember the name, sorry) would that still be in place after an upgrade?

And finally, if it was better for us to upgrade, would we then have to upgrade the two patches to 1.4.9.3? Or would this be needless for us.

I appreciate that without seeing our shop my saying we use a simple version of it is pointless, so it is here: http://www.eyeseesound.tv/shop though again i'm not sure if looking at the front end would be enough for you to make an educated assessment of our use or needs.

Any pointers/thoughts appreciated though.

Actually, after checking my old posts i have realised that the pending/complete issue wasn't to do with the upgrade.

has this been resolved at all?

At the moment i have to set the downloads to pending if i want them available as soon as the customer checks out, but if i change their order to complete the downloads vanish from their account.

is this being addressed? It isn't the end of the world leaving the order at pending, but does confuse people now and then and isn't ideal.

I don't recall saying this but it will not solve it. It is still an issue and needs to be converted to allow multiple statuses

This was mostly fixed by adding the coupon code to the payment page. Now you can enter a coupon there and free checkout will activate. Still probably best to allow placement on all checkout and cart pages, but that will wait for 1.5.x

How dare you forget my mod's name "Download Auto-Insert"
You will need to get the latest version from mysite or the extension store (wherever you bought it from) and just replace that one file again after upgrading.
And finally, if it was better for us to upgrade, would we then have to upgrade the two patches to 1.4.9.3? Or would this be needless for us.
Patch only versions are only designed to work between consecutive versions. You will need the full 1.4.9.3 package and then follow the upgrade.txt instructions.

That is mostly the default theme with a new background, so there will be no real problem there.
The only catch you will find is the new token system that was added in 1.4.8, so any older modules or extensions will need to be updated. Most modules are updated these days anyway so it should be as simple as getting the latest versions and uploading them to your store after the upgrade is done.

In fact, can I change the Pending title in System >> Order Statuses from Pending to say Order Complete and it function as the pending does at the moment.

So the downloads will be available on the new 'Order Complete' and that is the first state the order will be in because it was the pending option... or does the fact i change the name from Pending to Order Complete affect things via the code at the back and so it will no longer use the new Order Complete as the first state of play because it is no longer called Pending?

Cheers Q i saw you had posted whilst i was posting the one above this one.

You are correct, you didn't say what i suggested about the downloads issue, i discovered that after i posted and then went back to my older posts. You said exactly what you said here and that is that it is known and besing discussed :)

thanks for all the feedback, and sorry for forgetting the name of the mod :) i don't do nouns very well :) love the mod though :)

Right, i just did what I asked about the Order Completed thing and it actually appears to work.

It remains the default state straight off and it tells our customers Order Completed so they get the downloads straight away and it tells them the order is completed, which i a little fib but only by a few hours in most cases.

Satisfactory solution until it is resolved properly.

I don't understand why you would ever part with your product on a pending status anyways as that would mean you haven't procured the money yet.

Well,

a) if someone wants to rip us off for a £2.50 download of mp3s then they're obviously too skint to pay and so fair enough, they can nick it, we don't care enough as to be honest we don't think mp3s have any value, but each to their own

b) I want people who aren't going to rip us off (and no-one has yet) to be able to gain access to what they've just bought instantly and that's the only way of doing it

c) I believe i'm correct in thinking/believing that PayPal can't be cancelled by them after they've received the download anyway so it's irrelevant if i've had time to capture the funds yet or not.

But mostly, we're creative hippy types in it for the love of the game rather than the lines of charlie, hookers and a Beemer. We do things because we love and believe in music and one way or another we'll make it pay or go broke giving it a damn good go and leave a beautiful legacy behind us.

Damn, life is good when you're not an arsehole :)
