Checkout error - Error: Unknown column 'coupon_id' in 'field

Hi all, Im testing out my new site and when i tried to checkout that was the error message I got.

version - i believe it is some form of version 1.4 but not sure exactly. It was updated by Q last year.

the full error is

Error: Unknown column 'coupon_id' in 'field list'

I tried searching the community for the answer and I came across this response from Daniel. However, Im a novice with OC and not sure how to fix the problem. Can anyone explain it to me.
"There has been a new field added to orders in version 1.2.8 called coupon_id please check that it is in your order table."

So you say it is a new site, but updated last year by Q?

What is the story?

Im extremely slow with building it. It took me a long time to enter all the products. Its been like a weekend hobby in "building" this, my first ecommerce site. So technically its a "new" site but its been around for a little more than a year. Ive never gone "live" yet. lol

Does that make sense?

And when i first put OC on it, i had a real old version, then by the time i was ready to make some updates to it, the version was outdated and Q updated it for me.
