I have searched high and low for a hotel booking / reservation system for concepts I have.

I have found that several people have looked to but no one seems to have found a relatively easy turnkey solution. So faced with that I am seriously considered developing one. But I have a few questions:
  • How many people are interested in paying for a hotel booking / reservation system that is integrated (extension) with Open Cart?
  • What features are needed?
  • How many people need a solution for multiple properties?
  • What is an acceptable price range you would be will to pay for such a solution?
I know this is a very generic request, but I need to know if I should build this for the needs of others or if I should just build it for what I need and not sell it to others.

Thanks all!!

I don't own a hotel but do know there are a lot of hotel booking systems already on the market. With something like what you're proposing, you might also want to think about building a client so you can add, edit and delete bookings using computer perhaps positioned at the hotel reception. Just my opinion but I wouldn't trust reception staff with backend access to your system.

Thanks for the input! One thing we thought of as a potential issue is what if the site owner used multiple booking solutions, ie one for there systems internally and one for web access. I figured we would either need to build some sort of import / export feature or build a complete solution to make our solution powerful enough to be able to do the whole process and suggest to the site owners (who buy our solution) to use only our solution for all bookings. Based on that your input is very helpful. I was thinking of a backend, but your are right the reception staff needs access to CERTAIN things, but not the whole backend.

As far as why we are considering building a booking system in OC, it is simple. I have used OC for a little while now and it is a very powerful CMS. The menuing, the cart, payment handling, affiliates, multiple domain support, multiple store support and much of the core logic supports so many aspects a hotel or even multiple hotel environment needs. It's multiple nesting menus and several other things make it a natural base for a hotel booking system. All that is missing is the booking solution.

However, at this point, I haven't received enough interest to spend the extra time to make the solution I will end up creating a global solution so I may just build it (initially) for our needs and then if there is interest consider enhancing it down the road to offer it as a solution to others.

Definite interest here.

Its probably the only thing Opencart is missing.

Looks promising. Two things I see that prevent me from considering it (with a third that may impact others).
  • It is a single date range. (not good for hotel stays)
  • It does not allow for multiple occurrences of the same reservation. IE, the sample is for bikes. If the renter has more than one bike it does not allow them to indicate there are (for example) 3 (identical) bikes and once all three are rented then it shows no availability. Does it?
The other thing that most (potentially me included) needs is the ability to have multiple rooms, properties / locations that are searchable. Granted some of that can be addressed with OpenCart's core functionality, but I would thing that not everyone who wants to create a reservation system using OC will know the right way to do that. At minimum concepts will need to be included in the docs.

Overall, it looks like a good start!

Thanks jloberg for your remarks. Your second point is almost available. I'am also busy to allow productoptions in the reservationsystem. For rooms you should then select f.e. with second bathroom, balcony etc. Each option wil have it's own stock level (max reservations) that will be visible in the calender.

For date ranges, I am realy thinking for a way to do that. I think I have to use admin fields like, period and/or arrival day
Is that what you're looking for?

TOP 5 Opencart Extensions:
1:Opencart Reservations
2:Stock Report, import/export stock levels with Excel
3:3D Carousel

Yes!

I had several ideas on how to do it, just not enough time to try to do it....

So maybe I can collaborate with you and share some ideas. Not sure the forum is the best place to do that though. You can PM me if interested in my ideas and me understanding how your system works will also help me try to help you... :)

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi All,

Is someone able to make the following for OC 1.5.5.1.?

http://www.phpjabbers.com/time-slots-bo ... r/demo.php

I asked them if their module would be available for OpenCart but they said to me that it was not possible. I really want something like this.

Please let me know.

Best Regards,
