Has anyone created a module for RSS feeds at all? I want to add one but don't wanna go thru the monotony of havin to add every single product one by one?

Yep.
Demo: http://www.unbannable.com/ocstore/rss.php

Also it is GoogleBase ready so you can use the Googlebase scheduler to point to this file and it will update your base feed automatically

newbie question about feeds, googlebase and open cart. ???
i guess im not sure what a feed does on googlebase exactly. update the items...? but how does it know without a file telling it? (just so that it dose is fine with me).

i want my items searchable on googlebase and this looks like what i need..but just so i have a clear idea of what this does without techy talk: on googlebase , you have to upload a xml file (or something like xml) so would this rss google feed be that same thing instead of uploading a spreadsheet? like the way the store and google communicate? would google be able to pick up the items in my open cart store using this rss feed? it sounds like it. or do you still need some sort of xml file? also, are there other search engine to submit to this way?
thanks to all who have the patience to help me get this.
or just saying all you need is that rss googlebase feed...and im good. gracias!!

Hi mona.

Simply, google base has 2 ways to add files. An xml file that you have to manually update every 30 days and every time you add new products. OR you can use the scheduler function inside googlebase to read your gbase compatible RSS feed file. That is what this file does. It is both normal RSS compatible and googlebase compatible (special google tags needed for gbase)

The Scheduler can be set to re-scan that feed file once per day. So you don't ever have to worry about adding files. It is all automatic using this file.

You can read more about how it works here:

@Qphoria: Can you have your googlebase/rss mod include the SEO Urls instead of the regular shop ones? would be even more efective in the product search of google wouldnt it? whatabout having it include the discount prices as well?

Wouldn't change anything. Search engines don't scan rss.
I'll see about adding specials and seo while im there

But the page gets pulled by google base.. and when the scanned URL is a SEO friendly one then the search result of google base/products would be even better...

plus the option with it passing a discounted price would make it perfect

It doesn't work that way with Google Base.

I can certainly add SEO to make people happy.. but rss isn't used as meta info.. its just for feed listings. It will only make them pretty for people that actually look at the status bar :)

The google merchant center hasn't changed anything in regards to the feeds
But I am about to release a new version.

There will be a $2.00 price increase from the current version, but upgraders who already have the my current RSS module will get the upgrade free!

New Features:
- Added Add to cart button right on the feed (Firefox only)
- Added SEO urls for links from the feed
- Added Special Pricing support. If there is a special price, it will use it.
- New Configuration area at top of file to configure many settings
--- configurable image size
--- configurable product limit
--- configurable add to cart, price, and model display
--- configurable google base taxonomy (Global)
- Cleaned up the code.
- Improved rss & feed compatibility (should improve on some warnings)

New version released!
- Previous purchasers can log into their account page and redownload to get the latest version
- Newcomers can find it here http://www.unbannable.com/ocstore/rss_gbase

This "should" get rid of a lot of the googlebase warnings people were seeing.

Is there a new version of this as I can't see it on the website? or is it now included in opencart?
