Ordering products by length or volume

Hi There, Has anyone got any plans or are willing to create an extention so you can order products by width and length?
For example, if you wanted to sell fabrics or maybe flooring? Prices for these kind of stores are usually set at per Metre squared.
It would be very useful if you could enter a length and width of a product and the cart calculates the price? If anybody has any information or would like to work on a solution? I have a friend would would like to buy this product.
