There was a File Upload contribution that allowed users to upload an image (for t-shirt designs, etc).

Is anyone working on a similar contribution for v1.x?

Have you got a link? I might create this module this week. Lots of people seem to want it. I want to add it to my global options/attributes module along with other types of options.

I'm trying to imagine the backend though... when viewing the order.
An image would have a preview (jpg,gif,png,bmp), but a normal file would just be an icon... word, pdf, excel, text... tell me if I've missed anything.

What would you guys use it for?
Can anyone show me screenshots from other backends that handle uploads?

Hey Readyman,

I need this module BADLY. I'm fresh to OpenCart and I've got 3 clients I'm moving over to it. One client includes what is being asked about, file upload.

The majority of the people that want the customer file upload for custom products so that the customer doesn't have to go through a separate process to upload their files and have to reference an order number.

Here's how I picture my need.

------------------------------------------

Customer is at product page...
- Customer selections options wanted (just like any other product)
- Below the options is a file upload box.
- The customer can upload up to 5 or so images, files, psd's, zip's, etc.
- When the files get uploaded, the upload box shows that (blank) # of files were uploaded.
- When the customer clicks "add to cart" the cart area shows everything as normal, but also include # of files uploaded
- Then go through the entire order process and check out. If the customer needs to make a note about what they want, there is the large comments area before submitting the order.
- The customer fully completes the payment process.

-----------------------------------------

That is the customer flow that I would like to see personally. Next question you asked was where to display the files. How about here? ...admin/index.php?route=customer/order/update&order_id=1
Just put a download link for each file there. I don't believe anything needs to be shown on the customer end, they have no need to download what they uploaded. As for upload maintenance, I say just let the files stay there, or heck, just run a cron job to delete them.

I found a few upload scripts that was of interest to me that I was gonna use.

All the uploads could go into a single password protected folder.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks! O0

Wouldn't it be more logical to have the file upload(s) after the checkout process so as not to have files hanging around the server from cancelled orders etc etc. Also, I assume upload boxes are going to spin some not so tech savvy customers out a bit so at least if you have that "technical" stuff on the other side of payment then when you inevitable get the "How does this work?" questions at least your dealing with paying customers...

As in
->Look at product
->Add to cart
->Pay for product
->Order success screen
->Upload your file(s)

Maybe creating a separate table with the unique order id and the uploaded filename would be all thats needed to then plug the system into the admin orders report. Maybe an icon next to the order indicates files attached which when clicked it downloads the file...

Just thoughts...

Actually kind of interests me now. Readyman, lemme know how you go with this cause if you're too busy I might have a crack but I don't want to duplicate effort.

This would still work for my needs, however it doesn't make sense. If you are purchasing 10 different items and all those items had different images to print on them, then you stuck with hoping that you get the correct images on the correct products... messy.

I am not scared of files being on my server, and I doubt anyone else is as well. Space is plentiful now-a-days. However, a simple SSH command could clean a directory in no time :)

I will put forth money to get this started. So, who wants to do it?

Not really, if multiple products are purchased then they can be listed and uploads attached to the listing. I'm not sure I've ever seen a cart or store that lets you upload *anything* to their server before you become a customer.

I don't think $30.00 dollars is going to be the decisive factor in this being created, sorry...

Ah, I picture what your saying now.

After checkout, the customer sees the pending order.
From there they can upload a file/files per line item.
Now, that is VERY easy to do.

Heck, maybe I'll dive into the OpenCart code and see what I need to do. I just don't want to end up spending 3 hours on something that should take a knowledgeable person 45minutes.

If this were WordPress, it would be a different story.

$50 total from me if this gets started today.

I know of a few others on here that will give at least $20.

I don't think anyone knows the value of this mod. It's worth more than $90 and I'm sure it could sell for $20 and be bought several times per month.

Relax guys, I'm sure someone is coding it right now. However, if someone hasn't coded it by the 5/6th November then I'l have a crack at it.

I will begin development of this module on Monday IF I can get $100 raised.

Also, if I do it, I'm thinking about going open source so it will help the development of other modules. I've looked into what the module will need to get moving and it seems like a piece of cake. I will just begin creating a simple version of this first. Maybe a more complex version later, but not open source.

I've already half coded this in my other modules(global options and text options).
I'm just working on the file upload handling today and the extra upload options like allowed filetypes, where the files should saved, how the admin retrieves them for each order that has upload options and then I'm done.
I hope to have a beta for Monday.
