[SOLVED] Installed theme, now website is gone

Hi everyone,

I am using v 1.5.6. I installed a new theme yesterday, and now my website is gone. I cannot figure out what the problem is. The admin is still accessible and everything is there when I look through the directories through FTP, but the actual webpage is just gone and the page source is completely blank. I logged into mysql and it appears to be blank from there as well.

Coincidentally, right after this happened - I opened my flash drive to restore everything from the backup that I made the day before.. and the flash drive became corrupted somehow - Everything is gone and replaced with a bunch of random letters and symbols. I didn't make a back up of my back up because, even though I am very prone to bad luck, losing my backup and my website at the same time didn't seem possible. but alas, I stand corrected and that's exactly what happened. I contacted the theme's author, and he got back with me after a couple of days saying he'll help me today, but I don't know when or if we will be able to figure it out. So, here I am.. Please help ??? ??? ??? :'( :'(

PS: This is only my second time posting in here, so I may be leaving out a lot of important information, but I don't even know what anyone would need to know in order to troubleshoot.. so I'll be here to respond to questions if any.. but that's pretty much all that happened.

... to know what? ???

Only to know, that you screwed up, and used some custom theme and some flash-drive to back something, for a relatively outdated 1.5.6.0 version. Everything else is plain guessin, like 'hey Doctor, it hurts badly, but I don't know where and why...'
Sorry, a bad start. Ma Succesion, move up to v.1.5.6.4f irst , and start from scratch. After you have screwed up anyway, it does no matter.

You were not helpful whatsoever, so I don't know why you wasted the effort that it took to comment. It's a support thread and I came for support. Asking questions might get someone the information that they would need to know what's going on, since I clearly stated that I don't know what happened or what's relevant to tell. And it does matter even after I screwed up. Starting over is going to be a last resort, not my first choice. I'll find someone who's kind enough to at least help me troubleshoot it instead of just making useless sarcastic comments and then recommending I give up everything I've worked for since fixing it might be 'like kinda hard and stuff'

Nevermind this thread, I'm going somewhere else for help.

Like I wrote, one cannot support, on nothing, but imaginations.
So, where should one be able to look for what?
You mentioned it, it's really a support forum, but to support, one needs facts.

One could start by asking even a single question. I told the facts exactly as they happened. 1. I installed a new theme. 2. My website disappeared from the face of the internet. 3. All the files are still there, and can be seen through FTP. 4. Page source is blank. 5. Everything appears normal in the admin backend. Those are the only facts that I have to give unless someone had asked a question that I could try to answer. 'One cannot learn the facts if one does not ask questions'. If I can't be helped with only this information, then so be it. But it's not necessary to be rude and talk to me like I'm an idiot in order to get that point across. ''There's not enough information to be able to solve your problem'' would've been enough.

Did you select the new theme in System - Settings ? If Yes, select default
If files in folder catalog/ are corrupted, overwrite with files from original opencart 1.5.6.1 archive.
If vQmod installed, check if new theme comes with xml files. Delete them from folder vqmod/xml.

Maybe contact your website host to see if they make regular backups of customer folders. If they do this you may be able to back track.
Corruption is a messy business. You may find a utility which can sort out you flash drive but sometimes corrupt is corrupt is there is no recompense.
If you do have to start from scratch the lesson you will learn is to backup and backup again - I have copies on 5 different drives.

thank you so much for answering.. I have definitely learned that lesson now. I checked with my host like you said and there is not a backup, unfortunately. I tried to recover the flash drive with a few different methods and services, but it was hopeless.. :-[ I'm going to keep 5 copies like you after this too.. ((:

Thank you so much for answering.. I did try that and even if I select my old theme (which worked fine before) or the default theme, I still see a blank page. I do use vQmod and there is an .xml file for the theme, but there's only one.. I can do what you said about overwriting the catalog files with original opencart files and see if that works (:

and I do have new information now.. My homepage is blank, but I've found that the entire website is not. Most pages do actually appear if I navigate to them another way, other than using the main page. For example, my website is http://www.birlirakarla.com so when I try to open that or http://www.birlirakarla.com/index.php?route=common/home it is completely blank - but if I open this page: http://www.birlirakarla.com/index.php?r ... 00_101_104 or another through my chrome history - It appears almost exactly as it should, with the new theme and everything..

I went through every directory with filezilla and I've made a list of all the files that were modified in /catalog on the day/time that I installed the theme. I expected the theme installation to only change files inside the theme folder - but I'm not sure if that's right..? Many other files outside the theme folder were changed, too. I'll write the modified files in case it's helpful, and to ask about overwriting the files from an original opencart archive..

All of these files below appear modified on the date/time that I installed the theme, so.. is it okay to overwrite all of these files with the original OC files.. and then nothing else will be lost? and should all of these files be changed when installing a new theme ? thank you guys so much for answering. I really, really appreciate your helpful answers..

httpdocs/catalog/controller/common/header.php, footer.php
httpdocs/catalog/controller/checkout/login.php
httpdocs/catalog/controller/module/special.php, slideshow.php, latest.php, featured.php, carousel.php, bestseller.php
httpdocs/catalog/controller/product/product.php,manufacturer.php,catagory.php

httpdocs/catalog/language/english/checkout/checkout.php

httpdocs/catalog/view/javascript/common.js
httpdocs/catalog/view/javascript/jquery/jquery-1.11.1.min.js
httpdocs/catalog/view/javascript/jquery/jquery.browser.min.js

httpdocs/catalog/view/javascript/marcus/ - 11 folders, subfolders, several files.. all new files installed with Marcus theme
/httpdocs/catalog/view/theme/marcus/ - 4 folders, subfolders, files.. all new files installed with marcus theme

Also.. vQmod:

/httpdocs/vqmod/xml/marcus_position.xml

Almost nothing was changed in the admin directory except for a new file added to /module, it's a new file that gives me a module in the admin area where I can customize the theme.. no other files were changed in the admin as far as I could tell.. and the admin works fine, including the theme's module.. thank you again

common.js is not original and has changes made by 'marcus'

Code: Select all

// <img src="catalog/view/theme/marcus/image/close.png" alt="" class="close" />
I assume the other files are also changed by theme-author.

Only solution left now is: contact theme author.

In the meantime use original files to present a working website.

Oh I see ): I tried contacting the author several times and he won't help me .. I'll use the original files like you said.. thanks so much for looking and helping me. I really appreciate it ((:

I have the same exact problem... tried to change themes this morning and gone, blanc page... no errors anywhere... tried to upload the default theme again but it doesn't work anymore.... deleted the new theme and tried my old theme again but nothing, it stays blanc. How can I figure out where it has gone wrong?

Oh my I solved the problem too by reading your posts. I deleted an Vqmod XML file from the new theme and it was solved! Yes!!
