My site was running on a host using PHP 7.2
Then I moved my store to a new host that was using PHP 7.4
I am using Opencart 3.0.3.2

At the new host, when I looked at Admin, all the little icons next to each menu link were gone.
(I also had at least one extension no longer work).

My host claimed it was the php version.
And they downgraded me to php 7.2
Then all my icons were back, my extension worked again.

Though they warned me that using php 7.2 was a security risk.

Is there some incompatibility with Opencart 3.0.3.2 with PHP 7.4?
Or, could using PHP 7.4 instead of PHP 7.2 make those icons in admin menu disappear?
I don't understand how that can be. But now it is working again with PHP 7.2

Try OpenCart 3.0.3.7 which should work just fine with PHP 7.4. Previous OpenCart versions require a lower PHP version!

Export/Import Tool * SpamBot Buster * Unused Images Manager * Instant Option Price Calculator * Number Option * Google Tag Manager * Survey Plus * OpenTwig

As others have said this sounds like an HTTP/HTTPS or WWW or NON-WWW issue to me.

Make sure your configs always point to both httpS and www in my opinion, but in any case, the same URL.

My site is fairly complex with a lot of customization and two dozen or more extensions. I can't imagine it would be easy to upgrade to latest version of OpenCart.
The Opencart version I am using, 3.0.3.2 seems to now be running well under PHP 7.2.
I've read now i a few places online that say it will also run without problems under PHP 7.3? Does any one know if that is the case?

Also, is it a risk in terms of getting hacked or other security issues to keep my site running under PHP 7.2?
Is PHP 7.3 a big improvement in this regard.

I seem to have read somewhere that PHP 7.2 is at end of life Nov 2020? Does that mean you should not be using it anymore?

PHP 7.3 shouldn't be a problem. But you would really need to test for yourself. Especially with all your customisations and extensions.

Official support for PHP 7.2 did end in November 2020. 7.3 ends in a few months.

However, some OS providers backport the security patches to the older PHP versions.
https://www.cloudlinux.com/features/#security see HardenedPHP.
https://access.redhat.com/security/updates/backporting
https://github.com/microsoft/php-src
https://ubuntu.com/security/cve?q=php&p ... n=&status=
And many more.

If you happen to be using a patched version of PHP then you should be secure. I would hope that any host offering old versions are offering patched versions. But you are best to ask them.

Great suggestion. I understand the pain for site owners and customized websites but older versions seriously are a hack waiting to happen. It's not a campaign for web developers to make more money. It's about keeping your site active and making money for you. PHP 7.2 is EOL (End of Life) and 7.3 is almost there.

Thank you all for the feedback!

I ended up using the link provided by xxvirusxx, for the page with fixes for the TWIG white space bug. I applied those bug fixes, and that cleared up the issues I was seeing.
