Hi All,
Is there any problem installing OC in a password protected directory on our server? The store is intended for wholesale purchase only and those customers need to be pre-approved and they would be given the credentials to access the store.
Thanks.

Unless I've missed something Opencart can handle retail and wholesale with account approval right out the box. I've got clients successfully running retail and wholesale on the same store and it works fine.

I understand your point. But in this case there is already a shop set up that uses Americommerce to process the cart/checkout. So all of the wholesale customers already have been approved and have pw access to the current protected directory. The easiest transition would be to simply swap out the current shop with OC. It wouldn't require any new approvals and customers could simply create accounts within OC (or not if they don't want).

Ok. It's not the way I would do it but hey, each to their own. :)

Then just add a password protection to .htaccess and problem solved. Not sure why you even created this topic if you need a store folder to be protected.

If it was a brand new store I would agree that it would be better managed with Customer groups and approvals. But since the client already has so many customers that have been purchasing using the existing method I thought it was worth continuing as is.

Yeah, I know how to add pw protection. My point was whether there was any downside to doing that with OC - like problems with API calls to payment processors, shipping couriers, etc.

No.
@thekrotek what are you talking about?

Callback requests from payment processors like the IPN from PayPal, the callback from SagePay etc. would be blocked by this.

That would mean order statuses wouldn't update properly when customers pay.
