Does anyone care to share what needs to be done to configure Google Analytics to keep a log of searches made in the opencart search?

OC does that itself and produces a report if you enabled customer activity.

It does, but it does not provide more depth as the users actions after and the route taken...
I also find that my costomer searches report shows duplicates as well for some reason.... See atatched screenshot

well, those are not duplicates, those are search events at different times.
OC likes to report to you when a seach was done on a particular keyword and how many products were returned at that time so it records every single search regardless of everything basically (great for bots to fill your customer search table).
Nonsense and useless of course unless you are debugging your search facilities.

Agreed, this is why I am pursuing the right way to log searches in Google Analytics...

well, I only know GA has a site search item under behaviour, never used it though.
