hi all,
does anyone have advice on the best template to purchase?
Ive always used forest themes but lately i can't find anything that doesn't overwrite a ton of core files.
I just wants something with a clean menu system with a modern design

Difficult that as it is a bit subjective and related to what you sell.

However, the way forward would be to look for themes that are only that. If they advertise as having many many extras, then those are the ones that you may not want.

I would recommend the default template with the additional benefits that it is cheap and very easy to install.

Crystal Light Centrum Taiwan
Extensions: MailQueue | SUKHR | VBoces

When buying OpenCart template you should only know one thing: NEVER buy Journal. The rest is the matter of your taste.

Oh i know, i made this mistake in the past on an old site.
Had to completely rebuild as it slowed the site to a crawl.

I currently have theme forests UP! theme installed on a site so i may stick with that then as there doesn't seem to be anything available that doesn't overwrite the files in some way.
I don't think i will need to worry about upgrading anymore as until opencart ever integrates a solution similar to the upgrade system on wordpress as its far too much hassle.

This will never happen, I can assure you. OpenCart will never have WP-like upgrade system.

Yes the best OpenCart template ever made is this one because it looks great and doesn't change anything except the CSS so all extensions will still work and it will be super fast:

I know, its something people have wanted since 1.5 but it will never come.
Its a shame though as its one of open carts biggest let downs. Even the docs they have with each release aren't updated.

As for theme i decided to go with 'sellegance' as it doesn't change any core code.
