I was watching the config tutorials and see a lot of things I'm configuring that I don't really want. I don't want people to have an account or anything like that. I basically want a store that I can display my products and people checkout as guests. No vouchers, no affiliates, no points, no registration. Can you turn that stuff off?

Thanks

Strictly technically, this all could be done. But it cannot just be switched off, by default,
meaning, that some of it needs to be manually removed/disabled/changed within
the Opencart Core. You could possibly find some information on such by use of Google,
but this information would not match 'latest' OC Versions. And if you are looking for a
more 'simple' coded Shop, I would not advise you, to use a latest Version for such,
but rather something, not so 'heavy' on Code, like a v.1.5.6.4, the latest official Version
of the 1.5.6.x Range:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... ory&page=2
It does not have a 'responsive' Theme built-in, but a nice range of such Themes exist, to
make it usable for Smartphone-Users in all Resolutions as well:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... load_id=36
or then, get the very latest v.1.5.6.5_rc (Release Candidate) Version, since it had some
Problems fixed, still found in the v.1.5.6.4 Version. Just to make sure, to get the best ! :D
It has ONLY not been made OFFICIAL anymore, because OC v.2.0 already existed, when it
was released, and OC did not want two different Versions to 'officially' exist anymore... 8)
but I use it since, and it's unbeaten so far, when it comes to do it's Job right! ;)

Thanks for the links and the help. I'm a novice at this. For the github link, not sure what I'm supposed to download there. Can you give me any insight?

Thanks

Well, for OpenCart, there is no such thing as an Upgrade, despite of many Users,
and even Dev's, talking about Upgrades ::) , since every Version is a full install.
And to also make OC v.1.5.6.x install and work with PHP v.7.x Versions, find info
and an encryption.php replacement File, as well as a full PHP-7 OC install
Routine here:

Ernie,
Thanks for all your help. This is getting complicated. I argue with my boss all the time that I'm not a coder. I'm much better with hardware and cabling. ;D Along with that, this is my busy season of craft shows so I'm not sure I can devote the time to it. Quick question about the older version. Does it not have the the things I listed I don't need or would it still have to be modified. Trying to find some inexpensive documentation I can look at but it's a little hard to find.

Well, not so much exists on OC Coder Documentation, and if something exists, it
does not really cover 'specific' matters, such as 'handling' OC Source files. Which
means, like in my Case, that it will be a Trail&Error Game, to find out, in any case.
And to start, one first needs to get a minimal understanding of, how this MVC(L)
type of Framework Construction Software works, to then be able, to play around
in OC Source Code.

But I guess, that, if you 'exactly' quote, what you want to 'remove' out of OC for
good, change, or enhance, and how your Shop should 'visually' look, by use of
one of the existing free Custom Themes, that such an OC Shop Software Package
could be created by someone for less than 100 US Dollars. It's not that much work,
and only takes a couple of hours of brain work :D , if one is familiar with OC 1.5.6.x.
But for 100 Bucks, don't expect later Services for free, just be aware of such minor
details, such might sometimes likely end in disputes... :-\

Just make sure, not to be talked into 'later' OC Versions, mainly due to the huge
Variety of free Themes and Mods, and the broad Knowledge, already existing on
the Web for v.1.5.x Versions. This, because, and strictly technically, later Versions
have/use nothing, what really makes 'em easier to handle, more secure, faster,
or whatever else would be of real importance. So, it's much easier + cheaper
for born NoCoders like us, to find Answers + Solutions, and without the need,
to ask for here, in the vague hope, to get an OC-Newbie-usable reply ... :D

But better don't rely on a Dev, only cheap, but not able, to identify himself, since
those in need of anonymous Mail-Accounts likely cannot be found anymore, if
something does not work as planned. Let'em show you something first, before
you pay, to get it installed on your Site for good! ;)

But it's only my personal No-Pro opinion, so, don't take it for granted!
Good Luck!

You can find extensions in the store such as this one:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=28079

The suggested extension above is for v2.x releases of OC.

The most generated errors being found on Opencart forum originates from contributed programming. The increased post counters are caused by redundancies of the same solutions that were already provided prior.

Thanks everyone. So my wishlist is no vouchers, no affiliates, no points, no registration. Are these also in 1.5.6.4?

Code: Select all

Are these also in 1.5.6.4?
That's about the same, in all Versions, some functions can be switched, and others not,
it also depends on Functions, possibly not yet or no longer existing in older or newer
Versions, like the ADMIN HTTPS SSL settings in later OC v.3.x.x ;)
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=205940&p=735849#p735849

And some of those extensions, disabling/removing some Functions, can easy be found,
by searching the OC Extension Section by use of Keywords like REMOVE or DISABLE.
You just have to select the OC Version, to possibly find matching Mods for some, and so
also decide on an OC Version, where most Extensions exist for, to satisfy your needs! ;)
But User Registration cannot be switched off, it needs to be removed in full, only the
Guest Registration Section can be switched off in Admin. And if you leave the Routines
existing, and only remove the links, anyone could still register, since OC Links are
no Secret.

But it won't be done this way, since you want to remove Registration, and this will only
be possible, by removing/changing Content out of Source Files as well. And therefore
have the need, to also 'rework' the Pages involved visually as well. Besides of removing
Links, and other Code related, on the Front Section as well as in the Admin Section, to
make it function as 'dummy-proof', as it should be, since others might play around also
in such Admin Sections, and should not be able, to accidentally run into Problems. ;)

What about an extension like this:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... gistration

I did see another that removes everything else except the login in the header. If I used both, do you think they would conflict?

Well, sorry, but I am only fluent with free Extensions, not paid one's,
but the one linked seems to match your needs! It's available for
most all OC-Versions, so, you're free to decide on, what Version to use.
I just wonder, that paulfeakins from Antropy did not tell us about it ... 8)
But, for what reason ever, I never stumbled over it on the extension Pages.
It's a pitty, that the Ext.Page-TAG's no longer function, otherwise, it would be
mucho easier, to find something. But since they have been misused, Tags
have been switched off... :choke:
Good Luck! ;)
Ernie
PS. But I am quite sure, that paulfeakins's Extension will remove everything,
so, don't use another Mod for such!

Thanks for all your help. I don't mind paying for something as long as it does what I need. :) I have an email into him to see if it will also do the others for me. As there is a theme I like that's only compatible with the 1.5 OC, I'll probably go with that version. I wanted something with a wood theme as I do woodcrafts. So any more help I need will probably be in that section of the forum.
Thanks again,
Dan Seymour

Well, themewise, it also depends on what OC Version you will decide on.
And to meet today's Customer requirements, you need to use a 'responsive'
matching Theme, if you decide on using v.1.5.6.5-based Code. A great Solution
would be the Bootstrap-3 Theme, wich works exeptionally well:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=14631
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... _license=0
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... _license=0
if you want to work with a STOCK v.1.5.6.5_rc Version, as it comes by Default.
It's by far the most simple way, without the need, to change existing 'content' in
default v.1.5.6.x Source.

And/Or, to use real 'OC-2.x type Themes', one has two choices:
First, the v.1.5.6.5 OC LIGHT Version ( by PM-Netti /Peku, and available here:
https://github.com/pekka2/Opencart-1.5.6.5-Edge )
one so basically gets a great Variety of OC v.2.0.x type free Themes, and only a few
files are usually required (stylesheet.css - header.tpl(slightly modified) - footer.tpl),
to make 'em work in Peku's v.1.5.6.5 Light Version, as you can see here:
http://www.ejacob.ch/shop/en&theme=toysandgames
PS: Not all Themes shown already work top notch perfect yet !
---
Second, install the OC2 Theme for OC 1.5 Theme Extension, and other
OC v.2.x type Bootstrap-3 Themes could also be implemented by use of Peku's
Extension. It's built for default OC v.1.5.6.x Installations. The only minor problem
could be, that the Extension has not yet been updated, 'cause some minor misses
still have been found, since it's latest Release: :'(
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=23641
---
The only real drawback is, compared to 'default OC1.5.6.x' Source, that 'responsive'
Theme modified Software might require 'changes', to be made in theme-related
OC Extensions, in order to find their 'Anchors' in so-called 'responsive' Themes,
because some ANCHOR Code might not look exactly the same, compared with default
Theme Code, and the Mod would fail to work, if accessing such Theme Files, to modify
or add to existing Source.

And such could also require a Seller of an Extension, like the REMOVE ACCOUNT Mod,
to first check on, and adapt all Theme-related Code, to make it work, as planned ! ::)
---
Some free 'default' OC v.2.x - type responsive Themes can be found here:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... load_id=37
---
Sorry about all this, but I am not trying, to make your life uncomfortable  ,
rather just inform you, what you have to consider, before you make your selection.
And I am just not familiar enough, to judge on, wich v.2.x Version could be used as
alternative, without making OC-life more complicated, as it could + should be. And
during the v.2.x Period, up to OC v.2.3.x, a lot of things changed much, not making it
easier for those, trying to keep up. And each one of the OC v.2.x Versions also had
some misses, so, whatever one decides on, just keep in mind, that some Work will
be waiting, to eventually end up with a Solution, where everything works, as planned.

But that's always a problem, and it has always been one, since Open Source Software
exists. The continuing development keeps Software Creators from ever reaching a 'final'
Stage, and/or Version. (Exept for 1.5.6.5_rc, which so far never has been failing yet...)
But it so also leaves room for others, to make it in their own way, that's the good
thing about it ! :D
I hope it helps, it costs me a lot of brain...

Ok Ernie,
Once again, you're scaring me. :choke: ;D The theme I was looking at is this:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... =36&page=2
It is responsive and is wood themed so win-win. Before I go ahead with it, though, I'll ask the creator of the remove account ext if it will work with it.

Well, I am fully aware of the obvious complexity of all this. But better consider OpenCart
to be Your future Online Money-Generator, and to reach that Goal, one has to know
a few basic Things, before selecting the Tools, required, to hopefully make Life easier
in the End.

And in the Case of an OC-Theme, any Background Image can be placed in any Theme,
by simply adding the corresponding Code to a stylesheet.css File BODY Section ;)
like, in this case, the wooden Background of the Theme you like!

Code: Select all

body {
...
...
	background:url('../image/drvo.jpg') repeat;
...
...
}
meaning, that such should NOT be a decisive Factor, to select a certain
Theme, because similarly working responsive Themes might please you
more in other details, if you play around with different Themes, just to
find out about.
I once tested the whole Assortment of Panforestnet and Yoocart Designs,
since they are all built quite the same technological way, and all also had
the same little Glitches too :D .
So, I zipped the 32 Themes I fixed and tested, and also added the famous
OC v.1.5.6.x Theme Switcher Module, to enable you, to have all those Themes
online available for Tests, in Admin-selectable Front Side Sections, after uploading
them, as they come linked, into the Shop ROOT Section.
The UPLOAD will also replace the OC Default system/engine/common.php File,
to add an additional Subcategory-related Routine for some of those Themes:

Code: Select all

		if (substr($child, 0, 6) == 'module' && isset($args['position'])) {
		$controller->data['module_position']  = $args['position'];
		}
so, better RE-NAME the original system/engine/common.php File,
before uploading the new one, just to have it as spare.
---
32 free Theme Download for default OC v.1.5.6.1-5 Versions:
http://www.ipc.li/os/free_panforestnet_ ... s_156x.zip
---
Theme Switcher Extension Page:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=11320
You have to enable the Module in the Admin/User/User Group/Top Administrator Section after Install.
---
You can later simply remove the Themes again, without changing anything else,
so, don't worry about possibly surplus Code in your Software on the Server! :D

Well, if you downloaded the Zip File, you have found an image, explaining, which LINKS will
have to be changed first, in the step4.tpl and success.tpl Files, to make sure, that
the Shop will be called, after clicking it's Link, and not the Install Routine again, as it is
likely the Case, due to some Browser Cache + Cookie behaviour. Or even better, add an index.php
ending to the Links, in addition, to make absolutely sure, that it will work.

And that's all, everything else should work, as planned, the only 'visual' difference to default installs
would be, that the Database Engine Setting is a fixed Value to MYSQLI, and no longer selectable.
In addition, the Files, placed in the SYSTEM/ Subdirectory have to be uploaded as well,
and that's it!

Ernie

But I have to ask a Moderator, to move this Topic out of OC3 Section, it really dos not
belong here anymore, since this is all about 1.5.x :'(

Hi,
wouldn't it be more simple to just hide all links from header and footer and cart, modifying the .twig files? Just keeping 'pay' links?
No problem with core files then. You just have the core files and database ready, but and no one can access them. And the day you want to have them back, you just reset the twig files....
Am I missing some point?
