I agree. it's all based on your budget but you also shouldn't be expecting to maximize your sales by offering shotty web hosting. We all hope that the capital we bring in will pay off the server expense but to get there you have to spend some money.

Environment: CentOS

(yes, this one would run you about $300.00/month but it's only an example.)

15 IPs???? what are you hosting?
Still too expensive you should change provider

How about this:
dedicated server
Intel Core i7 (6 x 3,20 GHz)
24 GB RAM
80 GB SSD,
2TB HDD,
max 100 Mbit/s port in a 3x10Gbit network
UNLIMITED Traffic (allowed to use up to 60mbit constantly, but spikes are OK)
various linux OS,
ALL this for around 100 euro/month and around 1euro per extra IP

But I would go for this VPS instead:
16 GB dedicated RAM,
6vCPU's
800GB storage,
and the rest exactly the same as above...
All for 30 euro per month....now this is cheap!!!

Both these are way too powerful for the average opencart user, and budget VPS with 512MB costing 6 euro a month will do for most web shops!!! I have tested a centos 6 minimal installation in a vps like this, with Gnome, remote desktop, firefox browser and it runs smoothly at 2% cpu and 300Mb RAM. I even played a couple of YouTube videos but the RAM did spike a bit there upto 400MB... still it kept running smooth!

where is this config available ? and is it a managed server
https://contabo.com/?show=servers
It is unmanaged so you need to know what you are doing.
These are very powerful servers, but if you cannot manage your own servers then better not to use them, as things can go wrong easy with these things.

I used, Vida host cloud based server, but our site was running slow, so I upgraded to a Deicated server, still the site was slow, as Open cart has a bug, that even when you select no product count for categories in the admin area, the header, category, products module still count the product total,
After eliminating this bug and fixing it, My site http://www.partystuffonline.co.uk/ is running at a good speed.

Now not sure if i want to downgrade to cloud server or leave it on dedicted server

You wrote a month ago here. Have you already tried to downgrade the server? How does it work after that?

Couldn't agree more. Very fast and professional.

Just wanted to put my 2c in. I've recommended WX Hosting to a client based on the anecdotal reviews here on the forums and just have to say that the experience has been excellent so far. Jeff Hunter there has been top notch, provided excellent technical support and going over & above what you'd usually expect. I haven't done extensive performance testing but it's seemed very quick so far. Really can't recommend them higher!

I recently switched to Evolve and have to say my sites have never been faster plus it's great having someone who really, really knows opencart to help when needed.

Running Opencart v2.2 with multi-stores from http://www.labeshops.com which has links to all my stores.

I'll second that. It's sad how far Hostgator has fallen since being sold to EIG in 2012. I can't believe EIG paid $225 million buying Hostgator just so they could gut it. Support is slow, server resources are oversold, and they can't come even close to honoring their uptime promises. It's the exact opposite of everything Hostgator used to be.

I just saw this. Oh and, hello there. I was considering signing some folks up with Host Gator but it is ironic that it's been a year since everyone was praising them so highly! So, they are crapping out now?
