I am confused as to how putting a unit of volume measurement into the weight class would yield any benefit to the store.

How will your shipping module learn how many milliliters of Product A make up one kilogram of weight? If Product A is 500ml per kg and Product B is 1000ml per kg, how can your shipping module know how to make that calculation?

Or, are you trying to accomplish a method of giving flexibility to the dimensional aspect of the shipping module, and you recognize that a liter is not always a perfect 100x100x100mm cube?

It is not possible to convert a measure of volume into a measure of weight because each product has a different mass (the ratio of volume to weight).

What if you were selling both water and gasoline on your web site? One ml of water weighs one gram; 1 liter of water weighs one kilogram. One ml of gasoline weighs .68 grams; 1 liter of gasoline weighs 680 grams. You have a customer who purchases 10l of water and 10l of gasoline. How would you calculate the shipping charge? You have sold 20 liters of product. What information do you give to your shipping company?

In my case i need ml and also mm in diameter as these are two of the key factors for my products neither of these are currently available within the current system.

I suspect they would have to be an additional module because for shipping you need two things, the weight and where restricted by volume, the package dimensions. (Note that OC also does not support tubes which for Royal Mail is length limited but also takes into account the diameter.
