no worries. tpl are template files, the skin of the site
You will see a mixture of html, javascript and php in the tpl files.
They get their data from the controller files, generally of a similar name.
Controller files decide what to do with user input and if needed get data from the Model files which interact with the database.
In addition, you will find language files which the controller files also get data from and again generally follow the same naming structure.
