Hello OpenCart Community.
My store includes a handful of extremely large video and audio files that need to be downloaded after they are purchased. Really big like 250 MB - 700 MB.
For me, with a wired and fast cable connection, the files download without a hitch in about 10 minutes or less, but we've had multiple customers complain that their downloads fail repeatedly or that once they can finally download the files, they cannot play them on their system. (Most are .mp4 files to be viewed within Quicktime.)
Do you have any recommendations for ways to deal with giant downloads like this? Are there any server settings that I should check to make sure they aren't causing the user to be disconnected if their download is taking too long?
Perhaps this is an issue I should discuss with my host?
Thank you,
Adam
I have never had to deal with large files but did you zip them? just a thought, but you probably tried that already.
Hi, i have the same problem, but some of my files actually are sometimes as large as 10gb..., but the problems happens also with 700mb file... is there something special that opencart does? I was using zencart before and everything was working just fine (on 700Mb files)...
It is most likely to be a server problem due to time out problems either in php or apache.

You certainly won't be able to upload them through the backend as most servers won't allow more than 10mb files and who would want to do that one by one, wasting bandwidth and time.
To make opencart see them easily with no upload limits, you can use this mod:
http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... ion_id=185
Then you can just upload all your files at one time to the "download" folder on your site and opencart will see them when you list your downloads in the admin area.

This is still a problem in 1.5.5.1. Since OC doesn't hand off the download or send it to another tab or window, the store is unavailable during the download. This give the appearance to the customer that it has frozen up. Is there any way to force the download to begin in a new window?
Thanks for your help!
Thanks for your help!
My post above is still the best (possibly only) option.
It has nothing to do with opencart but instead the hosting limits, as well as limitations on the overhead of http for file transfers.
FTP is literally made for file transfers and this mod allows you to upload all your files to the server at once and automatically generate entries within opencart for them.
