As it stands now... if an item is $100 with a 10% tax when the item is added to the cart it will display as $110.

When you get to the checkout page it will break the item up into the product price ($100)/shipping (free)/tax ($10)... but some people have asked me why the cart is jacking up prices.

I fear that will be a common concern and ppl won't go through and reach the checkout page.

Any way to mod a file or something to change this?

D'OH!

I didn't even realize that was checked.

Another question re: taxes.

I have "options" added that should not be taxed (returnable deposits). Is there a way to not tax an option? Or.. is there a better way to force someone to pay extra (no tax) when getting something?

Example:
-Somebody needs to rent a tent. The tent rents for $50.
-In order to rent a tent, I require a deposit of $20 that will be returned.
-So I will charge them for $20 up front, but it should not be taxed.
-They will pay $70 today and only pay tax on $50 of it.

I don't run a tent store, but it is the same idea...

Why don't you integrate the deposit in the price and write about this "inclusive deposit" (in product description) ???

Mal --

If I integrate the deposit into the price it will be taxed. It will also inflate the price (I call it inflation because they would not be paying $70... they would be paying $50 and depositing $20).

A deposit should not be taxed as it is money you are holding until the return of an item.

So I need to keep it separate (which the option allows me to do) but I need to make it not taxed.

Any ideas?
