I am just setting up an SSL certificate on a site and the hosting has:

httpdocs/ for normal connections
httpsdocs/ for ssl connections.

Should I copy all the files over to the httpsdocs folder? I enabled the SSL in the admin but I get 404s.

Any ideas would be great.

OK as you haven't provided much info on the server being used, I am going to take a stab in the dark and guess that you are using a plesk control panel

httpdocs/, httpsdocs/
These directories are where your main website files will be held. httpdocs/ is for the standard website (http://www.example.com/) and httpsdocs/ is for the secure site (https://www.example.com/). Note that SSL is not enabled by default, and will not work properly when enabled unless a genuine certificate is installed. Also, since 7.5 Reloaded, Plesk has the ability to use just one directory (httpdocs/) for both secure and insecure sites. For most websites, you will only need to use the httpdocs/ directory.

Hi Thanks for the reply It is not Plesk but I can configure it to use just the one folder which seems like it would be easier.

Many thanks for the ideas I will report back if I can't get it sorted.

should be fine - the httpsdocs folder is ok to use if you have ultra sensitive data etc. (not for OC though)

Although you can view the httpdocs folder whilst on SSL, you cannot view the httpsdocs folder from a non SSL domain

Ahh awesome thanks for the tip. I will reconfigure my server now. The HTTPS was working ok but I had some issues with the template and it would of meant copying files back and forth etc if any changes were made.

Thanks for the help.
