Hello Guys,

I have searched forums and read many threads about the topic but i havent found what i am looking for.

I am using OC V. 1.5.6.4 and I have created two customer groups one is Domestic Customers (With a special pricing) and another for International Customers (With a completely different pricing).

However, i would need to force my customers to choose a customer group from the above customer groups i have created adding a --Please select-- in a drop down menu and an asterix to the customer type in the registration form, so if not chosen, a warning pop up message appears as to select the group he/she belongs to in order to continue with the registration.

I have managed to change the customer group selection in the registration form to (drop-down list instead of radio) and added the red asterix (mandatory) to the customer type but YET to add the --Please select-- and the warning parts. Now if a customer didn't take action, the registration will proceed and the customer will be added to the default customer group which is in this case Domestic although they are International still.

I would really appreciate your inputs in that matter, efforts and responses are greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Spinner

Setting a default customer group would pretty much be the same among other customer groups on the dropdown list compared on having a please select with a mandatory field at this point. If a customer would have to choose by themselves when registering, what would be the point on having default customer groups defined.

Thanks for response Straightlight.. That is my main issue, in my case, there is no point of having a default group since i have named it to Domestic to serve my purpose... my main concern is to have my customers choosing the group which they fit in so once logged, they can view the pricing i have assigned to that group and on that basis i can send them adjusted marketing campaigns as well as newsletter with the correct features.

For instance, for a set of customers (Domestic), i need to send them newsletter with local currency and other set of customers, with another currency and so on.

I think the way OC is built, the customer groups are either default or wholesale, What if i do not offer wholesale and just want to segregate the customers that i have in the store and communicate with them accurately?

So what do you think?

:) Thanks Ernie for the response, i am in fact looked up for this and downloaded already to try out.. But however, that is not the case.. If my customer is in an international location, they need to choose that in their registration as an International Customer (in the customer type part) instead of Wholesale customer group, the default Opencart group. As well as Domestic, they need to choose Domestic Customer.

This will give me a better way of segregation to send my newsletter accordingly as per the customer type and many other factors.

Well, next time, you better mention, if you use a Custom Theme Extension.
But the Mod has been created to work with the Sellegance Theme too, so,
a Dev could rewrite it to also work with Journal, if you cannot do it.
Good Luck!
