Hi bigd46,

The auto complete just mean that when you type some characters, the system will find the products based on the characters you entered.

For example:

If you have a created product named Kindle, 6" E Ink Display, Wi-Fi, when you type the kindle in the auto complete field, the product Kindle, 6" E Ink Display, Wi-Fi will be shown so as to let you select it.

That's it. It's not very effective. But, it works.

There are a several free and fee extensions for killing autocomplete and using the prior dropdown menus instead.

As one author put it at his http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... tocomplete, "I give this for free 'cause 99.9% of the code can be found around the web (ie opencart, com and forum). Thus, I find it unethical to charge more than .50$ for this kind of extensions, an opinion not favorable around here I notice. So... here you are. With the PRO version!!!" He now has two versions, Autocomplete killer spree (with manufacturers) and Autocomplete damn killer, both of them for 1.5.5.1 and 1.5.6.0, thus, likely also good as-is in 1.5.6.1 just released yesterday. It works very well.

They start at http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... tocomplete . . .

Frankly, the autocomplete isn't a elegant feature for a professional admin panel. I will implement a high user experience extension for such part of OpenCart.
