Hi All.

I would like to have animated .gif images for the product image ? Is this possible with OpenCart.
Is there a module or any way to make this work ?

Thanks

You could only add that in the product description because as product image, they all go trough the image model and get resized for different listings, and thats where the animation gets lost.

Found this and it works 100%

First, I found a totally free tool that actually shrinks GIFs in one click. I've got them with 18 frames and they work just fine after a squeezing. Anyone want to shrink GIFs - here you go - Freebie on me - http://www.ashongsoft.com/gif.resizer.documents.html

2 things it will not do. It will not do batch resizing, must do one at a time. And it will not enlarge, just shrink. But it shrinks like a bitch, let me tell you.

OK, so now I have the images in 120, 280 and 500px, and can make others if I need them.

So, what is the solution to get them doing their animation thing with OC? It takes a bit of time, not nothing that isn't worth it, as the results are great. Here are the steps -

Using the importer, image manager on the second product page, go ahead and upload the image into the images/data folder.

This creates imagename1-38x38.jpg, imagename1-120x120.jpg, etc. In my case a 38x38, 40x40 (???), 120x120, 250x250 and 500x500. All JPGs from the one GIF. All in the images/cache/data folder.

They are crap, no animation at all. So delete them. Then upload the correct sized GIFs from your PC into the images/cache/data folder where you deleted the ones created by the image manager.

Then - rename the GIFs the same as the JPGs you deleted. imagename1-38x38.jpg, imagename1-120x120.jpg, etc. YES, call them JPGs, they will still be GIFs and act like GIFs.

Actually, you could have all these sitting renamed and ready on your PC, so I'll just wipe the images/cache/data folders and upload the ones already named correctly.
