OpenCart now offers a deeper integration with PayPal, providing merchants with features seldom offered by other shopping carts, such as subscription billing and management, transaction search and refunds from with the OpenCart admin area.

New PayPal modules and updates to the older ones

In addition, there have been a number of improvements made to the existing core PayPal plugins.

All of the integration's have been officially certified by PayPal and OpenCart is now an official PayPal partner: [link to PayPal partner directory].

Paypal Pro Iframe / Payflow Pro iFrame

Previously PayPal Pro iFrame was only available to download in the extensions store. PayPal commissioned the development of this module to include new features and to also allow merchants to install for free by including it in the core of OpenCart payment extensions.

Running PayPal Pro in an iFrame allows merchants to hide the identity of the PayPal payment gateway for their card payments. It also reduces the requirements of a merchant’s PCI compliance, so there is no need for a dedicated server or VPS and penetration testing to become compliant - all payment pages are hosted at PayPal and not on your store.

In addition, it is much more user friendly with your customers not being redirected to PayPal during the payment process.

US users who use PayPal Payflow Pro can also benefit from the iFrame module.

PayPal Express Checkout

PayPal Express Checkout is one of the newer features of PayPal, allowing customers to checkout in just a few clicks. Customers can login to their existing PayPal account and use their existing account details so there is no need to enter information again.

We have also added subscription payments to OpenCart and PayPal Express Checkout is the first payment module that supports the feature. You can create recurring profiles for products so users get billed based on the profile settings.

There is also a new PayPal account search feature! You can now search for PayPal data directly from your OpenCart admin area. View transactions, issue refunds and other tools are now available to help minimize your admin duties.

Dear Sir,
Congratulations for the latest step. I am very happy about it.
Anyways what i have read by changelogs above the new modules or extensions that have been added will not help me particularly because the above services are not available in India(as far as my knowledge goes).
Anyways i cant wait to lay my hands on the latest script. will download and test it now.

That was really not expected...I expected a 2.0 in the next few months instead of a 1.5.6. Hmm...

I'm guessing this was released now due to the partnership with PayPal etc.

OC2.0 still a ways off release.

Just one question about the new release.

Will the addition of the OpenBay Pro control the stock accurately in OC? By that I mean not only sales but if orders are edited will it update the stock levels if for instance a wrong size is returned to stock?

This is the one thing that has been missing from OC and is a major want to have for stores that have many items in their inventory.

I am hopeful it has at last been addressed.

Thank you Daniel as usual for your work. Considering all new features are basically related to new payment methods (or improvements of existing ones), may we assume most of extensions for 1.5.5.1 are compatible with 1.5.6 release?

There are changes to the product form page and menu due to the new subscriptions / payment profiles, most changes are payment gateways or other integration's but there is changes to the core code so its advised that you check all of your mods. There is other changes but you should cross check the changes on github.

How are the recurring payments used, with PayPal?

I tried to configure them but cannot get it to work in some cases.

if your vqmod script searches for before <?php echo $footer; ?> on admin/view/template/product.tpl, it's not going to work very nicely as there's a missing line break.

Missing line was added last night to the repo..it was missing in product_form.tpl

just noticed the commit. broke quite a number of my scripts which searches for footer.
