Hy,

I never updated an online shop (went from a basic html shop to zencart, and to opencart 2.1.0.2).
I have https, seo and atm everything is working fine, but when its the right time to update?
I realised the more extensions, addons you have the more complicated the update is. I have 1 or 2 extension I cannot work with and I dont know how will they work in updated opencart.
For how long 2.1.0.2 version will be fine approx, 3-5 years max?

Whats your expierience with that kind of updates? Manually or migration tools?

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Thx for any answer and advice!

There are many threads here on how to update so I wont go in to that (a quick search will see threads that have been recently active). I will go into if, why and when you should upgrade.

First of all, you should review the changes not just in the version you intend to go to, but in other versions between as earlier changes are not noted in the latest changelog:
Per my reply further down this thread, with a git log recording commits often with meaningless commit comments this is basically a none starter, unless you want to a large amount of time following commits and comparing changes in that way .

Are you happy with 2x
Is 2x running without issues or are there issues you need to address that an upgrade would fix.
Is there a change to the project that will make an improvement to your website that you need/want to make use of.
Has there been a security fix in version 3x that exists and will not be fixed in version 2x

There are more questions I've no doubt.

I would ask one more question, am i upgrading for the sake of upgrading. If the answer to that is yes, then the answer to if I should upgrade is, now probably isn't the right time.

Having just looked at the git change log, which is as you showed on the left, it seems the change log will basically be useless unless you want to start following each commit. and start comparing files. I am going to edit my answer.

It might be worth proposing a more meaningful change log instead of a commit log. Are you an active developer of the project?

Are you an active developer of the project?
Well, not quite, I developed my own Project, based on an earlier
version, already proven to work. It keeps me independent from
requiring assistance, in an environment, where free Support is
no longer a major part of it.
