I am trying to finish an fresh install of version 3.0.2.0. When I finish I always get the same two errors in the admin area. I have tried the install 3 times.

1. Faded popup that say the Storage Directory needs to be moved, but I'm unsure what it wants and once I touch the screen for "automatically do this" it closes. Can anyone advise what I have to do please. I am NOT a programmer but have a little idea how to get around. (Photo below)

2. Maybe tied to the first. The left side of the admin screen menu is small and the text overlaps to the right. (Photo below)

Any help would be appreciated. This was a live site that I attempted to upgrade from v2 to v3 and screwed it all up with pages and pages of errors, so I have to get this up as soon as I can please.

Thanks,

Well, better always search Google first, in ths case for: Opencart Storage Directory Problems
https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Open ... Problem%22
it has been mentioned lots of times alrady. Also search the OC Extension Site
for Extensions, solving that specific Problem:
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... n_id=35477
https://www.opencart.com/index.php?rout ... =Directory
But it's your Problem, if you tried to overwrite an existing + working Version,
so, better don't make Questions, resulting out of such poor doings, 'urgent', it
only reduces changes, to be taken 'seriously', if one screws up because of
such upmost unprofessional Action.
Good Luck, no offense please.

Thank you for your reply, I don't take offense, but I don't understand either. I did try checking the OpenCart site and forum repeatedly but it is NOT user friendly to search and I found nothing, therefore, I posted here for assistance.

I mentioned that I tried to upgrade and it failed. So I did a fresh install in a fresh directory with a fresh database and received this error each time.

I will follow your recommended links, thank you, but don't know why you think these were errors in judgement or problems.

As mentioned, I am a user and make no claims to being a programmer or guru... just joe ordinary trying to use a "user friendly" product that is not always so user friendly.

trying to use a "user friendly" product that is not always so user friendly.

Well, I am aware of, that the OC Forum Search is Nonsense, but you might know Google,
and that's by far the best Search Engine, when it comes to OC Matters.

But beeing 'user friendly' does not mean, that anyone will be able to handle OC,
It requires certain codewise technical knowledge, to be able, to get along with OC,
or then, since OC has been designed to generate Money, one needs a Professional,
like in any other Business too.

Unfortunately, later Versions got more complicated, and User Information is a rare good
yet. And for later Versions, Knowledge still has it's pricetag on it. It needs to be accepted,
or then, one is free to select a Version, where Knowledge broadly exists already.

But better don't complain about it, take it, as it comes, as a free gift. But if it
surpasses your knowledge, or the time, you planned, to put into it, you can always
get it installed by one of the Dev's, and exactly according your requirements.
That's the way for real Sales Pro's, who don't want to waste their costly time
with unknown and complicated Software Installations on Servers.

Good Luck!

Ernie,

Thanks for your input. I will continue to pursue this, but getting a developer or programmer to help is no easy task either. I had one who decided to move to Magneto now and I hired 2 others off Freelancer and another site and both did not finish any work and left me for weeks without work.

I have even emailed 5 programmers off the OpenCart site listings and only 1 returned the email.

The complexities of the program I understand is beyond my capabilities, but when you can't get a decent reliable programmer, it forces us to try ourselves. Your right though, GOOGLE is a great place to go. I didn't think of that because I would have thought OpenCart forums and site would have had the resources, but again, as you even mentioned, the boards have their place but are not the ultimate source for help.

Again, thank you for steering me in the right direction. If you know someone who is reliable and reasonable priced, I have a few little things I would like to try and get done with the site... starting with this fix :)

Best wishes,

Dean

Well, I could not describe it better. But every Project, also relying on Fans, will sooner or
later be confronted with the reality of human life and behaviour. I was astonished, to
find such an unsurpassed amount of knowledge, coming to OC. Just like in the former
'EveryAuction' Scene, many many Moons ago, when all the Perl-Coder Freaks tried to beat
Ebay in combined force. I still have an active old Site + Pages, exept for the auction itself ... :-)
http://www.everyauction.info/everyauction_153_XXL.html
But then, after a while, it ended up, beeing about Cash, like in real Life. And by changing it
from simple multifile Flat-DB to MySql, users gave up, by moving on to free PHP Auctions,
or then PHP based Online Shops.
---
So much to History. But Similarities exist, and the Web is moving again, more and more to
Cloud Solutions. And OC needs to work on this now, and adapt to Cloud Standards as well,
so, there won't be much time left, to care much about 'Self-Installers', and their individual
needs, to have the Software installed and set in proper Condition.

And, according to ModSeller Rules, those Fellows should spend some of their time at the
Forum, but only one of about 1'000 is willing to frequently be of service for free. And OC has
no Choice, but accept it, because OC creates it's own Income out of Mode-Sellers. So, it's
kind of an endless loop, where nobody can leave the scene, without loosing money at last.

And Newcomer expect Friends around here, naive, and fully unaware of the Fact, thet OC
is no a Gift from heaven, but just another genious Idea, on how to generate Income, and so
start a rather unique Business. But, like in any Business, to start is one thing, but to stay,
is another one. And in order to stay, one needs to follow latest Techniques.

But sure not still invest much time, just to keep all those happy, possibly already creating
income for a while, by use of free OC, and hopefully forever and ever again. Most OC Users
never even think about, to frequently come here, for the only reason, to assist someone else.
For them, everybody else is a potential Competitor, and only a Fool would tell them Secrets.

You see, it's a little more complicated, than it looks like, after only reading OC Page One !
If you know, what I'm trying to tell you ! But it's only my personal and fully independent
Impression, after beeing around here for a while, so, don't take it for granted.

And regarding DEV's, I could not judge, because I don't know anyone of them. Just make
sure, NOT to select People, hiding behind anonymous eMail Addresses. If one does Not
exist officially, and to be found on the Web, by Name and Address, don't even bother,
regardless of the Price one quotes. It mostly wasted Money, and stolen paid Mods.

Good Luck :-)

Ernie,

Thank you for your further input. I appreciate the guidance and will endeavor to conquer this today.

I hear exactly what you're saying and know that in my own little world between buying all the mods and such over time, I have contributed to the machine and the move to the cloud, well we already see how risky that is... for ever good programmer there seems to be a hacker that is just as good... or better.

Best regards,

Dean

@Dean911: I am not sure if I understood your 1. post.
Have you made a fresh, new installation with OC 3.0.2.0 oder did you made a update form a 2.x version?
Second, the popup window displays clearly what the intention is behind these actions.
Third, if the left menu is not displayed correct, it seems to be a missing css.

In general, OpenCart is one of the most easy to understand and most easy to install shopping carts.
Maybe it miss more documentation, but finally it should be easy to understand.

And as someone earlier mentioned, if you want to hire an OpenCart Specialist (not one of those guys with an anonymous email address somewhere on this or another planet) - simply check the partner site od look here around who is posting and who is telling you what - I am sure your shop will be running within 5-10 minutes.
And the cost for such an easy task is really forgetable - especially when compared the time you already have spent until now for nothing.

You could also post a new request in the commercial forum here and wait for the answers.

Finally one important advice (you should follow !): do not install and/or follow any advices to disable important notices, warnings about write permissions and so on!
They all there for a good reason - hiding them is the most stupid solution!
Instead you - or someone who helps you - shall follow them and apply or fix.
