so let me provide me more information...

my hosting provider says smtp settings are

Outgoing SMTP Server: mail3.gridhost.co.uk (or mail.themeatingjoint.shop for non-SSL if you prefer, but if you disable SSL, please use port 25)
SMTP Port: 465
SSL: On
SPA: Off
SMTP Authentication: On ("Use same password as incoming server" in Outlook, or for Mac Mail, iPhone and iPad devices, please use "Password" mode)

and i have set these as
hostname mail3.gridhost.co.uk
email team@themeatingjoint.shop ... tested ok on hosted site send/receive emails
password set correctly
smtp port 465
timeout 50

also on the store tab the email is set to team@themeatingjoint.shop

so really puzzled why i cannot send order emails after placing an order

anybody help please???

thanks

See this commit for remote SSL solution: https://github.com/opencart/opencart/pu ... 5b50e7f138 . If the issue persists, please provide the error message.

sorry straightlight ... i did think i was reasonably technical but i have no idea what this solution is... im assuming there is a problem with mail.php ... but where the corrected file is and where it needs to be uploaded to and how to check any errors are a mystery... perhaps you can clarify please...
thanks

None of that helped... I did track the error and i think the solution which works for me
is two things... if your hosting company has setup smtp requiring from then you must explicitly use femailaddress in settings ... also server needs to be prefixed with ssl://
see thread viewtopic.php?t=87368 and his example of the settings which also worked for me ... look at attachment...

Straight light I am sorry to say but your comments are almost impossible to understand.

From the start of this thread I have failed to understand what exactly you are saying.
Anybody reading my previous post would understand that I was successful in come nfirming an order by sending to the customer an email but did not receive a copy of that order and could not understand why. I asked if anyone could explain. do you understand?? Its quite a simple question.
The answer was that my OUTLOOK client cannot handle SMTP so it was deceiving me. When I switched to checking with mail2web or gmail ALL emails were correct.

S to summarise make sure you use a from email address in the mail paras and ssl:// as a prefix for hostname.

Now that the solution has been elaborated, it is clearly about a server-specific requirement setting.
