SEO Friendly URL tags

I am looking to update to the OC 2.0 version but I cannot find a solution to make the product tags to be SEO friendly i.e from:

http://website.com/index.php?route=prod ... =something
http://website.com/product/search&tag=something

Basically getting rid of the index.php?route=

Any ideas would be fab...

Strange that the OC team does not update their system with a bit more SEO in mind, which is so important nowadays...
