I have done lots of searches on this issue already. BUT THANKS!

Now when I attempt to set up my gmail using the settings everyone else suggests as you can see from the picture. Upon submitting the email form this error is shown

Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com:465 (Connection timed out) in /home/holsters/public_html/system/library/mail.php on line 170Notice: Error: Connection timed out (110) in /home/holsters/public_html/system/library/mail.php on line 173

Did Gmail change their ports or something?

No googlemail instead of gmail does not work either.

You should contact your host to see if they are blocking the connection

I just tested the conection with telnet and got a response from smtp.gmail.com on port 465

Hi Please do the following

Create a new file, call it gmail.php

paste in the following code and save, then upload to your domain root and run it in a wb browser.

Code: Select all

x<?php

    $fp = fsockopen("www.google.com", 80, $errno, $errstr, 10); // work fine
    if (!$fp)
        echo "www.google.com -  $errstr   ($errno)<br>\n";
    else
        echo "www.google.com -  ok<br>\n";

    $fp = fsockopen("smtp.gmail.com", 465, $errno, $errstr, 10); // NOT work
    if (!$fp)
        echo "smtp.gmail.com 465  -  $errstr   ($errno)<br>\n";
    else
        echo "smtp.gmail.com 465 -  ok<br>\n";

    $fp = fsockopen("smtp.gmail.com", 587, $errno, $errstr, 10); // NOT work
    if (!$fp)
        echo "smtp.gmail.com 587  -  $errstr   ($errno)<br>\n";
    else
        echo "smtp.gmail.com 587 -  ok<br>\n";
