Question:

old site is in a directory /whatever, with the domain http://www.whatever.com pointing there

new site (opencart) is directory /opencart

I've just about got the new opencart system live and ready to go. Was going to point the old domain to new directory, but realize it's easier to handle all of the 301 redirecting I'll need to do for old pages > new pages if the opencart system resided in the /whatever directory.

Is it safe and do-able to simply copy the entire /opencart directory contents into the /whatever directory? Will that work transparently or will things break, or are there settings in the system that will need changed? Will the file and directory CHMOD permissions be retained? I'd be doing the copy from the Unix command line, probably, rather than FTPing.

Thanks in advance!

you will need to edit config.php and admin/config.php to relfect the new location.

You will need to edit htaccess. and change RewriteBase
