.htaccess file in root Opencart directory

Hi all

I have a question about the htaccess.txt file in the OC root directory. Does the name need to be changed to .htaccess for all installations, or should I only do that if the .htaccess file settings are needed? I am not sure exactly what the settings in that file do, and cant seem to find an answer on the forums anywhere. Can anyone help me out please? Not sure if I need to enable it or not.

you need to enable it to use SSL or SEO, otherwise you don't thought both are recommended for most stores.
