image manager subfolders not showing images

I downloaded opencart 1.5.3.1
I can see all opencart images in the main image file manager. when I create a subfolder to well organise and classify my images, the subfolder is created without any problems, but when I want to upload an image in the subfolder, the image will upload but will not display, instead I get a broken image symbol. but if I put that same image in the main image file manager of opencart with all the other images of laptops and monitors etc..., it will display. it is only in subfolder that the images will not display.
how can I solve this issue? please help if you have a solution. I looked on google and the only info I get is that it's an error 202 and it's to do with file permissions, but the O.C version the person installed was 1.4.9.3, not the version I have installed which is the 1.5.3.1
