Some time ago, I lapsed our secure certificate (intentionally). After doing that, I could not log in as administrator. Now, I want to re-purchase a secure certificate. Once I do, will I once again be able to log in as administrator, or is there something or some routine I will have to follow to ensure compatibility between website and certificate? The secure certificate will be purchase from godaddy, our website hosting vendor. Our website is flowersbylaterres.com, and our platform is OpenCart v 1.5.2.1. Thank you.

Normally there is no problem when installing a SSL- Certificate on a server.
If that is done, be sure that both config files (catalog and admin) has https URLs.
And enable the SSL setting in the shop settings (backend).

Just to login into the backend, you do not need a Certificate, but if it was before you have to adopt the 2 cinfig files and change the config value in the database (table settings).

I will be purchasing the certificate soon. Once I do, I will post again to let you know how it works out. As it now stands, I can access the website only as a user. I do not have any back-end access, or access to any of the code for the website. Thank you very much for your insight and advice.

Not renewing an SSL certificate would not revoke your access to your admin area. You may need to remove the redirect rule in your .htaccess file (if there is one) and update the 2 config files to remove the 's' from the HTTPS section. You can access your admin area over http protocol then.
