I'm using an SEO checking tool to clean up the SEO situation on our website, and one thing I can't figure out how to solve is this:

We have found 5 URLs that are not SEO friendly!

Code: Select all

http://www.example.com/index.php?route=product/search
http://www.example.com/index.php?route=checkout/cart
https://www.example.com/index.php?route=account/return/add
https://www.example.com/index.php?route=account/order
http://www.example.com/index.php?route=product/compare
I tried adding them to robots.txt with a "Disallow:" directive for each one:

Code: Select all

User-agent: *
Disallow: http://www.example.com/index.php?route=product/search
Disallow: http://www.example.com/index.php?route=checkout/cart
Disallow: https://www.example.com/index.php?route=account/return/add
Disallow: https://www.example.com/index.php?route=account/order
Disallow: http://www.example.com/index.php?route=product/compare
But they still show up in the SEO report. Which means, I assume, that they're still indexable by Google.

Is there a better way to handle these URL's?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Please remember it takes a while for the urls to go from googles index.
There is no need to worry about these unless google is serving them in search results.
The commands in the robots.txt file are correct.

You can request a removal of a URL through Webmaster Tools. When you add the Disallow lines, you don't need to include http://www.example.com

Just include /index.php?route=checkout/cart

You could use something like this:

Code: Select all

Disallow: /*?route=checkout/
Disallow: /*&route=checkout/
