Hi Folks
I have two websites using Opencart. One uses Opencart 2 and the other Opencart 1.56. I am wondering if I can upgrade my server to the latest version of PHP and MySQL without killing the site. I only wish to upgrade the Opencart 2 site as I am not that worried about the older site. I have a tonne of mods installed so not sure if it will survive the upgrade. If you wish to take a look the site is at: https://www.inkhub.com.au. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Just go ahead, I use PHP7.x for some time already with my 1.5.6.5_rc Version, and
I only found one Extension, a filemanager/editor (not imagemanager!) no longer able
to work, and the SqlBuddy and eXtplorer Fileeditor had to be upgraded, to work again.
Besides of this, the OC v.1.5.6.x Install Routine also would require a slight update, to
correctly address the MySqli DB again, if a new OC 1.5.6.x install is made.
There may be some other 1.5.x Extensions, no longer able to work, but I never have
be reading about OC-2 Extensions yet, having problems with PHP7.
Good Luck
Ernie

Thanks my friend, really appreciate the feedback. What about the MySQL update. Do you think that it is safe to update to latest MySQL also ?

Cheers Dean

Well, that sure not an OpenCart2 Site you linked ... :D
Or it would be something very very special.

If both the old and new store versions are on the same cPanel account, they're both going to use the same PHP version. Unless you've customized it, OC 1.5.x won't work on PHP 7.1 - 7.3. You can safely switch the PHP version to test / check each site and if they don't work, switch your PHP version back using Multi PHP Manager. No backup needed to do so.
