Backup / Restore Process

There has been countless reports on the forum regarding failed upgrades process of Opencart especially in the v2.x releases. Followed are referral documentations that will help you resolved these issues.

1 - Always consider to backup your store from the File Manager console (provided by your host) by using the compress button with ZIP format (not tar.gz or others). Then, test your downloaded backup ZIP file of your store with: 7-Zip, a free and very useful tool: . Once installed, right-click on the ZIP file - > 7-Zip - > Test Archive. If no errors are found, your ZIP file is a good match with CRC32 compression.

2 - To backup your database at all times; especially when a centralized change for Opencart may be needed for any hopeful and valid reasons. Followed is a step-by-step guidance documentation on how to backup and restore your database: ... admin.aspx

3 - As an experimental module, it is suggested to use the following to proceed with the upgrade rather than using the one from the core distribution due to technical reasons:

4 - The database name you wish to backup / restore can be found in both config.php and admin/config.php file where:

Code: Select all

define('DB_DATABASE', 'your_database');
your_database would be replaced with your actual database name to look up on your database host console.

// Optional but suggested
Upgrade procedures can also be tested on a separate folder to ensure the success of the operation before applying the tool upgrade on the live store.

The most generated errors being found on Opencart forum originates from contributed programming. The increased post counters are caused by redundancies of the same solutions that were already provided prior.
