looked for answers for hours with no avail, so here goes. I'm using Version 1.5.1.3

I'm looking to add what is esstentially a blog, and will use a Wordpress backend to allow the easy use and update of it by secondary parties. I want to create a new page using my existing layout and all of Opencart (which is a simply an awesome cms and platform btw, respect) and simply have http://initfurniture.co.uk/blog open up as wordpress, but retaining the complete layout and functionality of OC. Essentially seamlessly blending the appearance of the two as its to be a designer website selling furniture so must be clean.

The plan was to create an 'information' page, and then edit this pages html directly as I've half done. Problem is I don't know how to access this page as its stored in a mySQL database somewhere, right? Is it possible to even edit?

I gather others in this similar situation have skinned the wordpress to be similar, which I guess will work, but I have no php knowledge to bring through the correct information. As I wan't to retain all the charachteristics of the Opencart layout, it would surely be simpler to edit using the page I've created as the template? or maybe not, I'm no expert, just a keen bean to learn.

Thanks in advance for any input.

p.s. why is hardly anyone using wordpress based blogs in their opencarts? can't find anything on this topic!!!

Cheers,

Tophat.

Self Bump!

Well I'm having some success through much trial and headaches. Latest development is that I've taken the simplistic approach and copied the 'information' pages html straight through from web source and copied that into the new wordpress theme I've created. The theme being implemented as per guide below.

This guide is hot and helped me lots so far:
http://rivergraphics.net/resources-tuto ... website/2/

Hopefully this may work. However, when I say "some" success, its not perfect. It's not showing the login user or displaying the active cart. Essentially not pulling the right information. Although if I switch pages then it appears again. Perhaps someone might know how to pull and display this info correctly?

Cheers.

Hi Tophat,

Did you get very far with this?

I've been looking to do the same thing, but it seems there's now an extension for it:

Hey Dan,

I never yet got it fully working as I put the blog page on hold whilst I finishes the rest of the site. Now that's nearly done, I will need to look back into getting this working in the next few weeks.

I know it is possible as I've got the wordpress working within the template and just need to relate the header and footer better and pull the correct templates/controllers.

That extension looks interesting and might actually do what we're trying to achieve right. Would be interested to see how it works in more detail and can it be customised as I'll certainly want to edit the styling to suit. Let me know if you get on with it or find a better solution,

Cheers,

I've been speaking to the bloke who's built it, and it sounds great.

It's fully customisable assuming you have css knowledge, and more so if you know how to modify wordpress if further modifications need to be made. It'll be updated next week so you can have the login text/shopping cart on the blog page. Wordpress pages can be added opencart as well, so it can be used as a proper cms also.

I'll buy it next week, when it's been updated, and I'll let you know how I get on.

Great, yeh please let me know how you get on. Is nice to see that someone has finally built a proper wordpress module which I'm sure will become really popular! Every site has to have a blog page these days.

Sounds quite good if you can update your posts in opencart... however, I was thinking if using the wordpress CMS as it allows a lot of customisation in terms of the mods that can be installed on it, such as disqus commenting, spam filters, etc etc and I'd like full control over these to ensure a great user experience. Hopefully this will work with this mod... let me know if you can!!

Thanks Dan,

Yeah, it should be very useful indeed.

As the blog is controlled via wordpress I assume there's some scope there to use wordpress plugins; I'll experiment and report back!

How's the pluging working for you then? Is it what you require and expected? I'll need to start looking into this feature soon!.

Hi Tophat,

I haven't actually bought it yet, although I said I would ages ago. The reason is I've been waiting for the universal login feature and the developer hasn't answered my email from a fortnight ago. However, someone in the last comment on the module page says this has now been implemented. There's one other thing that concerns me, and that is whether people can leave comments on blog posts within opencart - I've asked the question in the comments and I'll let you know the answer when I've been told. I'm now wondering whether to use one of the built in blog modules...decisions decisions!

Finally Finally found the answer to my 6 month long quest to make this happen!! Now to actually implement it now that I know how it can be done... :D Thanks to '@MarketInSG' who posted a couple of weeks ago the exact answer I needed for this.

Just read these 2 articles:

1. Create your new blank 'blog' page
http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=59542

2. Insert the required wordpress code into your new page!
http://rivergraphics.net/resources-tuto ... g-website/

3. Opencart + Blog by wordpress = doesn't get better than that! ;D

Hello again,

I've followed both of those guides, and what I have ended up with is a wordpress blog and a new opencart section...but there still doesn't seem to be any way of getting the wordpress blog to be fully integrated into oc - i.e. with the login & shopping cart still present on the blog page. Did I miss something here?

Cheers,

Kind of, but its taken someone with a bit more experience than me to sort out. Sounds straightforward in principle and I was maybe naive in thinking so, but I had issues with the database connections not linking and so forth. I'm sure its a breaze if you know what to look for.

Fully working Wordpress blog is now seamlessly installed with Opencart:

http://www.getlaidbeds.co.uk/blog/

Please don't ask me how to do it as it is beyond my knowledge and taken an experienced programmer to implement, but it is possible as shown. Sorry I can't advise further.... and it's not a simple task that can be explained here!

Hi Tophat,

Is the wordpress blog still working for you?

If so, would you be able to pm me the details of the programmer who did this for you?

Or alternatively, if anyone has any instructions on how to do this it would be great.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Tophat,
Been trying to replicate your success for sometime now without joy. Can you clarifiy the above comment - do you follow the whole of the rivergraphics tutorial or just lift parts onto the "static" blank page.
I'm have got round the database problem (so far) by renaming the constants to OCDB_ not DB_ which conflicts with the Wordpress DB_ constants.... however, not completed yet.
