[Released] Recently viewed

This FREE module is brought to you by afwollis (http://www.webme.com.ua/) and i2Paq

What it does:

It will show the x amount of most looked at products on your website when a customer first visits your site.
This x amount is something you can set in your Store's Admin.
This can also be switched off!

As soon as a customer views a product the most looked at products are replaced by the last x amount of products your customer looks at.
This is very convenient as your customer can look around and then quickly returns to the product of his choice.
This x amount of product the customer has looked at you can also set in your Store's Admin.

can this be set to the home position like related products?

Could this also be adapted to display recently view products based on category? as im think id like to adapt it to display on category pages as a content page and display recently view products for the current category view.

This I have to ask my co-producer of this module.

I like your ideas, just wait on afwollis.

I do believe that an overall view is better then per categorie, a customer moves arround and this module is there to help him "remind" what he looked at the last x products.
If set to a category he does not know what he looked at before and maybe you loose that customers because he has to start over again with looking....

oh i see what you mean, sorry i misunderstood the way in which it worked.

I assumed it generated products based on all recently viewed, i.e non customer specific.

I get what you mean, if it related to what the customer last looked at, it wouldnt work as a category page.

But maybe something worth creating in the future for all recently viewed products.

can this be set to the home position...
In "home" - yes.
But it is hard-optimized for left/right column at this moment.
...like related products?
is not this type of products displayed on a "product page" ?
Could this also be adapted to display recently view products based on category?
yes, it could.
I get what you mean, if it related to what the customer last looked at, it wouldnt work as a category page.
not really.
with "proper improvements" this can be done.
But maybe something worth creating in the future for all recently viewed products.
???

Ok, I see now what your mean.

So it would show, per category, most viewed.
When clicking a category it would show the most viewed of that category

yeah

so for Example, if someone navigated to the category Desktops

There would then be a content page above the category description and products, that shows most recently viewed products inside the Desktops Category.

The content position would remain the same in each category, but the content generated would be category specific.

Doesnt seem that hard to do to be honest, i may even give it a go myself.

Im guessing it would require pulling recently viewed products based on current category id.

It think the best way is to keep it separately.
Although the current module could be adapted to positioning in the Home page.

I think a separate module should be built to show the Most viewed per category, this module does not need to show on the Home page.

True, doesnt need to show on the home page at all.

Can be kept as a module if you wished.

I was thinking about actually putting it in the content position though, in a seperate content div.
Not shown on the actuall home page, but on category pages.

Would require editing of category files rather than an extension install, but im fine with that :)

Could use this module as a basis, sort on product_id and category_id for most viewed per category.
Still using the option to show it on left or right or "category" and ad a <div>...</div> to the category.tpl or so to show it there if you want to.

Lets wait on afwollis so he can share his thoughts on this ;)

Lets wait on afwollis so he can share his thoughts on this
my thoughts are simple:
if we need it - we will get it :D

will see how "recently viewed per category" will work =)

[22:28] UPD

In "Recently Viewed Per Category" we could "lost" some products IF customer came to product page without "path" variable specified in URL.
By default - from any product-module, such as specials, bestesellers, featured.
