I registered for an API key and was given a username in an email. However, when trying to check out I get an error message that says "Authorization failure. You are not authorized to connect to this server." What am I missing?

You need to call them and get on their Production Server. Tell them you are using opencart and they will just activate it for you.

Need to contact who? You mention to contact someone to get on the production server, but not who to contact.

Just got this when I registered, in case anyone else is wondering.

When you have completed your testing, email the USPS Internet Customer Care Center (ICCC). They will switch your profile to allow you access to the production server and will provide you with the production URLs.

The ICCC is staffed as follows:
Monday through Friday from 8:00AM to 8:30PM Eastern Time
Saturday from 8:00AM to 6:00PM Eastern Time
Sunday and Postal Holidays - Closed except for the following Holidays: Martin Luther King; President's Day; Columbus Day; & Veteran's Day with hours from 9:00AM to 6:00PM Eastern Time

E-mail: uspstechsupport@esecurecare.net
Telephone: 1-800-344-7779

This has been my most pleasurable experience with USPS. Just explain that you are on the opencart platform, and that you are ready to be transfered to the production server.

They should offer to supply you with access to printed labels and address verification!

I've had the complete opposite experience. I've sent 5 emails in 7 days to try to get my account moved to the production server. No response whatsoever. I've called twice as well. The first time, I was on hold for 35 minutes and I got frustrated and hung up. The second time, the message told me they were closed. It was 5:30 eastern. Then it told me to call back before 8:30 eastern time. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Does anyone know if they can do this at the local post office? At least there, I can get mad and refuse to leave until someone helps me. It tells me to call back during regular hours (which I am calling in) to complain, then it hangs up on me.

Also - after they move you to the production server, you need to specifically tell them you want access to the label printing and/or address verification API's. They don't give them to you by default.
